Made in the USA – New Show on Discovery, Who Will Watch?
In an attempt to revitalize the US manufacturing market, a team of hot shots from several disciples have embarked on the reality concept theme – a cross between ‘Pimp my Ride” meets “How Its Made”. They take a failing manufacturing company in the US and in less than a year they turn it around to be profitable and on the road to being world-class.
Be prepared to be schooled in finance, purchasing, sales, marketing, industrial engineering, machine maintenance as well as lean manufacturing and Six Sigma. Nothing is left alone. The characters in the companies will end up being stars like those in the “Deadliest Catch”. I wouldn’t be surprised if the companies stocks don’t do real well as an added bonus. Expected to make it on the tube in later half of 2009, so, who will watch?

Sounds a lot like a series that aired here about a decade or more ago, Sir John Harvey -Jones ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_John_Harvey_Jones ) went to well known Bristish companies and gave them advice and guidance as to how they could increase efficiency, profits etc....some listened others didn't...but all gained exposure and had a chance to get some serious business advice for almost nothing.
The Morgan Car Company was one that he did...at the time they were not particularly interested, but if you look at them now they have adopted practically every one of his points.. I'd watch a remake of that series over here...but you need a really good 'presenter' or expert who is credible... |

There has been a show like this for several years hosted by John Ratzenberger (Cliff form Cheers). It's a good show. He also promotes good vocational education through a web site, personal appearnces etc.

Ya, you caught me! It really isn;t a new show on the Discovery channel (YET!). If you notice, the poll has a list of the respondents. I was hoping to include that (as well as other) data points in the pitch.

If there are any of you that want in one this - drop me a line. I do write for a living and often pitch ideas to companies both big and small. I have never pitched to a network. Any ideas would be helpful!

is it on the same theme as "kitchen nightmares" with Gordon Ramsey?
Maybe they could resurrect Indian Motorcycles???

Yup! Same concept but for mfg in the USA and instead of one guy who can redue a bar and grill it would be 5+ hotshots going in and revamping a company - pointing out the good and bad and working with them to make them tops.
My Wife thinks the show would be too expensive to do - I say it wouldn't.

Show idea submitted now in process of securing an agent...will be needing the following:
1) Manufacturing Plant in the USA to 'Fix" 2) Assemble experts to commit 3) Work Maybe it will be a winner, maybe not but one thing is for sure...we need it!

I would be very interested...sort of up my alley.
Sounds like something I would (foolishly) quit my job to try.

Kevin O'Leary is a weasel, a liar, and a douche. Google him. Or I can post a link to a well researched article on him....

From my take on watching him on the show, he makes no attempt to hide those 'qualities.'
None the less, the show provides some good visibility on how VC guys operate.

5 guys revamping a company does not sound like a winning formula. A good idea, but when do 5 people work in sync with each other to produce miraculous results? |
