Our last TBM Avenger
Our last TMB Avenger water bomber from New Brunswick flew off to a museum. I have actually photograpahed this plane in action (don't have the photos here. George Bush Sr. was here about 8 years ago and happened to see some of the bombers at the same airport and was quite interested in them. I got to meet him there as well. Here is the link to the story

I'm always amazed at how massive those airplanes are.

Been a while since I have seen a photo with the USS Oriskany on the side of a airplane! My Brother flew off of this ship at the end of the Korean War.
Good to see the old A-1's, they were a hell of an airplane. Several of the Navy versions were handed over to the US Air Force and sent to Vietnam, then used to found the "Air Commando" squadron in 1964-65 time frame. Good friend of mine was in that first group of pilots sent over there and is writing a book about his experiences there.

It came out in the late 70's, I believe. May be at the library... it was reissued in '89. Half.com might be a good source. Brief description here: My Secret War
