Where did all the Carrera GTs go ?
Up until maybe a year or 2 ago, I would see a Carrera GT on the Freeway or on one of the local canyon roads every couple of weeks or so. I havent seen one on the road in a good long while now. Have they all become garage queens already ?
|
Lucky you. Only place I have ever seen one is on YouTube... and it wasn't complimentary to the Porsche marque.
|
I used to see a few driving around but similarly haven't in quite a while. I suspect most have either been relegated to garage queen status or crashed by now.

Weird!
Why today my Son and I went to the Porsche dealership. -There was a CGT parked outside for all to salivate on . It was in for maintenance . Talked to a shaguar sales guy. Never seen one before and thought it'd be a bit bigger. -Nice, though. Small cabin nice rear sighting. Shame Porsche doesn't focus on engine details. Cheaper I guess. That goes along with all the rear engines. |
Parked next to one at the last Supercar Sunday I attended. But I don't see them on the street too often anymore.

This is the video I was thinking of. And don't get me wrong... I would give my left one to own one of these. Just wouldn't use it as an auditory weapon on the street. Maybe. :p |

Most are garaged due to the cost of a tune up!
Soneone was driving Jerry Seinfeld's at Cars and Coffee in Irvine a couple of weeks back! |

Carrera GT's are ugly. Period.
|
Even the great Walter Rohrl admits now that he could have been faster at the 'Ring in a CGT if they were more forgiving. Sad really to see another super expensive Porsche flagship with insufficient development.
|
There's one that I occasionally see driving around town, and another that I saw at my dealer service department when the buyer of my last 996 was getting a PPI. They didn't even put it in the same service area with the "common" Porsches, it was totally segregated. Wichita isn't supercar city, but I see far more new Ferraris and Lambos here than CGTs.
I think they're appreciating in value, correct? Probably a lot of folks just sitting on them to keep the miles low. It's a damn shame........ |
I keep mine garaged most of the year but will take it out to Cars and Coffee occasionally.
|
I'm saving up for one.... glorious car.

Would you, be kind enough to tell me if the black C2 turbo on your lot is as nice underneath/overall as the shiny sides appears in images?? |
Motion, might want to change your profile pic;)
|
I chased one through the hills of western Arkansas last year... It's my understanding that the owner drives it quite a bit...

Porsche AG just threw the car away. I can't respect that. However, I guess the 918 is the replacement: http://www.wired.com/images_blogs/au...ndering-01.jpg Anyone buy one of those recently? ;) :D |
I think they look way better than a gen 1 Boxster. The rear is a little odd and I don't generally like Targas but the front is great and the carbon monocoque makes up for the targa top. The side view is good too.

I've never thought of the CGT as a good looking car.
It is a effective looking car though. Not that I'll ever own one. So it does not matter. |

I don't know what a tuneup costs, but I have at the ready this fun fact -
The fuel filter is inside the fuel cell, the engine/rear suspension needs to come off of the monocoque to remove the fuel cell, (mid engine, remember), and IIRC, you cannot just buy a fuel filter, you need to go ahead and order the whole cell. But luckily, Genuine Porsche Replacement parts and labor have always been priced reasonably! |
Sorry - not ugly. Have you seen one in person?
Living in so cal I see one every couple of months. Last one was on the 57 south. Plus, my fellow porschephiles and I all trade iphone shots of the ones we see. |
