Changing Med. ins. with previous condition?

My wife is moving from Oregon to Cali. in Sept./Oct.

Fortunately open enrollment for insurance at my work is Sept./Oct.

I'm have Blue Shield she has Kaiser. I'm 55 she is 47

Here is the thing, she has elbow/hand pain that will likely require surgery.

If we switch her to Blue Shield will they balk at doing the surgery? Will moving her from Kaiser Oregon to Kaiser Calif. make Kaiser balk at the surgery?

I'm a type II diabetic but pretty sure I could get my meds switched over to Kaiser, on the other hand have been seeing my Dr. for over ten years and he is a good guy.

Any Med. insurance experts out there?

Thanks in advance

my understanding is that so long as your continuously insured then your preexisting conditions should be covered.

Also - group insurance through work tends to be easier to get coverage of preexisting conditions than individual coverage on the open market.

But I could be completely wrong.

That's my understanding as well. When I was in between jobs several years ago, I looked into it, but my memory may be a bit foggy. I seem to recall a 6-month grace period, or something like that. But if you're currently insured and switch directly to another insurance plan, they can't deny coverage based upon "pre-existing condition" garbage.

Wait another year for obamacare - then all your issues are resolved.

FWIW I tried to edit out the double "changing" in the title but couldn't.

Must be channeling some David Bowie
