Tell me about Columbus, OH.

We might have a job on the horizon in Columbus. I'm originally from Ann Arbor, MI, so its not entirely foreign territory.

My questions:

A) Are Ohio police a-holes? Am I going to get targeted for driving a Porsche?

B) After 10 years of living on the coasts, am I going to feel like I moved into the movie Fargo?

C) It seems like there are a ton of homes for sale in Columbus, and many of them have been on the market for a long time. What is the real estate market like?

Any input welcome.

1. Ohio has some of the finest golf courses in the nation,

Muirfield Village
Scioto CC
Columbus CC
etc.,
(2-3 hrs. Firestone CC, Akron.)

2. O.S.U
(O.S.U big time college football with Meyer as new H.Coach.)

3. Sports in general.

4. Mid-Ohio Raceway hr. or so north Lexington, Ohio.

5. Porsches to Grandville.(sp?)

Our friends just retired from Dublin,Oh (just outside Columbus) and bought a place up here.
They sold the house in Dublin in ( i think) 3 weeks. Couldn't believe it sold so fast.
Seemed like an ok area.....no place i'd want to live though.
And yes the cops are a holes in OH.

I live in Columbus; moved here last year.

There are a LOT of Porsches in OH. The PCA chapter uses Mid Ohio raceway. Cops are not A-holes against Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus, Bugatti. All kinds of cars/motorcycles here. No problem. Most bikers are squids though.

Housing is a buyers Mkt. Ohio state produces med folks at the cyclic rate so I have no idea how medical folks find jobs here.

Where in Columbus will you be working?
I you do not mind a commute, there is a great lake community east of Mt. Vernon called Apple Valley. Has one of the best public golf courses in the community. Area is aproximately 1 hour from the NE corner of Columbus.

I have never had an issue with the OH State Troopers and my Porsche.

I have been there more then a few times and from an outsiders impression, it's nice. It definetly has a newer city feel. Not lacking in higher end malls, car dealerships, and some of the finer things. Very flat there also . I dont know if that bothers you but coming from w pennsylvania I would miss the hills. Ohio state fans out the wazoo also so things come to a halt on football Saturday's . You could do a lot worse. As far as police, Ohio is the top rated state for ticketing. They are every where with laser, rolling radar, and any other means. I just picked up an passport 9500ix for my trips back.
