Bowline, Clove Hitch, Half Hitch, Square knot and a Bow and I'm my own Boy Scout.

Oh, and the one I use more than any except a bow on my shoes:

Simplified Truckers' Hitch.

Then there is the Gordian Knot....leave it to a Greek to cut to the chase....

VincentVega 08-07-2012 06:29 PM

Yeah, truckers hitch it useful.

Around the tree and back down the hole... I dont know many knots so I try to make a bowline work when I can. I need to learn a few more.

Am I missing a joke or have you mentioned something that's so obscure that it's not on the Internet?

No it's not.

Two strings walked into a bar and ordered a beer

The bartender looked at the strings sternly and explained that they do not serve strings in here.

The strings were asked to leave and they did just that.

Angry and thirsty, they devised a plan and ruffled themselves up and then wrapped themselves around each other.

They went back into the bar and ordered another drink.

The bartender, suspicious asked directly, are you the strings that were just in here?

Answer: "No, I'm afraid not"

Thought this was what you were talking about Mike? :)

You've got to have kids little enough to go to camp. We've got lanyards out the wazoo here.

I still have my Chapman's Book of Knots from when I was in the Navy in the old days!
Of all the knots, the bowline is probably the handiest.

All I know about knots is from a week when I was somewhere boring, but I had a knots for dummies sort of book, so I learned a few that seemed useful. Oh, and from fishing too.

All I know now is
- Truckers hitch to tighten stuff
- Half hitch x 3 to tie to something
- Fishermans knot to tie to something that I can't risk losing
- Square knot to casually connect two ends
- Double Fishermans knot to carefully connect two ends
- Surgeons knot
- Dropper

At the end of the day I think I overuse fishing knots for non-fishing uses, and I don't know how to handle flat cord or thick/slippery rope, but I can usually get stuff ligated.

the only knots I can reliably tie I learned in Ranger School over 23 years ago.

There are some handy phone apps out there for tying knots. For the life of me, I can never remember how to tie anything more complicated than a square knot.

Same here. The majority of rope rescue knots are based on the figure eight.

We use about seven variation of the Figure 8 , Barrel knot, half hitches, clove, water knot( for webbing) Butterfly. Bowlines are no longer acceptable for rescue. They have gone the way of the rotary phone.

Learned alot of cool knots from years of boating.

I like knots a lot!

Most commonly used knot for me while working is the bowline. Simple and quick to tie but very effective.

The rabbit comes out of the hole, goes around the tree and back into the hole. :)
Not exactly the terms used by the Chief in boot camp to teach us

She's made a couple more and has them on consignment in a buddy's gunshop, and has taken and completed a few custom orders for dog leashes.

I'd be down for two if she's willing.
