How to lose your Porsche for a week....

Just visit beautiful BC Canada and experience North America's most retarded speeding laws....

Pack of Porsches impounded for speeding on Sea-to-Sky - British Columbia - CBC News

Probably an effective deterrent.

Joeaksa 08-08-2012 07:24 AM

Betting the lawyers will have a field day over this. "Selective enforcement" I believe its called...

crustychief 08-08-2012 07:29 AM

Wow, I just read some of the comments on the link.

Yep.

George Carlin said he could cure the parking problem in NYC. The death penalty for illegal parking. After a few executions folks would quit parking in front of fire hydrants.

For what this is worth, the speed limits on that road are insanely low. It's a road that begs to be driven at a decent clip, and it's almost impossible to stay on the limit in a Porsche.

The triumph of the nanny state.

The key to this will be, are they pulling over other groups of cars and impounding them, or just Porsche's? If its just Porsches then the lawyers will like I said above, have a field day with this.

The Porsches are a soft target. The Porsche Club has a group that heads up that road almost every Saturday before breakfast. This has been annoying the cops for years, because they don't like to get up that early.

Unfortunately, several provinces have similar laws. Here in Ontario, 50km/hr (~30mph) over the limit & the same happens. But it is not selective. They have caught gramdmas, truck drivers, off-duty cops etc as well as Porsches, Ferraris, Lambos. :(

Still unconstitutional. Illegal seizure.

Perhaps our resident local lawyer can chime in. Again.

Dottore 08-08-2012 09:22 AM

Perfectly legal seizure. New law is a couple years old.

1990C4S 08-08-2012 09:26 AM

It was ruled unconstitutional in Ontario. But they still do it...

The judge found that Ontario’s street racing and stunt driving legislation carries a hefty possible prison sentence, but gives the accused limited grounds for defence.

Dottore 08-08-2012 09:40 AM

Sorry. Hadn't realized the law permitting seizure had been challenged.

kach22i 08-08-2012 10:25 AM

At least none of them were air-cooled.

Laneco 08-08-2012 10:59 AM

That is SUCH a beautiful drive...

The local cops have the deserved reputation of being notorious for setting up these "fishing holes" - cheap & easy busts.

Not sure why anyone would think going 50% over the posted limit would result in a slap on the wrists. Just be glad it wasn't in Ontario....

For us that are still using the archaic non-metric system (I think we should have converted decades ago) that's the equivalent of driving 81 mph in a 50. It would be a hefty fine here in NJ, and points (yearly surcharges)

cairns 08-08-2012 02:14 PM

I drove it at 75 in a Volvo. Holding a Porsche down on that road would have been awfully hard. Stunningly beautiful.
