Leather shortage

In a quest to find items for my e-commerce site, I discovered that leather is in short supply. No leather gloves for Tig McStick for the time being.

However, that does open the door for synthetics. If they weren't dependent on petroleum.

If so, corn prices are way up and going higher...I can't see how there will not be lots of leather (and steak/burger/ribs...) available soon. Tough time to be bovine.

What's weird is that this glove supplier gets it's cowhide from China. I thought it might be Argentina or Brazil. They mentioned elk and pig too. All in short supply.

Probably not a shortage of actual hides, but a shortage of tanned hides.
Tighter pollution controls on some of the chemicals in the tanning process has probably meant that some tanneries have closed instead of modernizing, then trying to compete against Chinese imports (from tanneries that follow looser rules)

Was looking to trade my older Vanson leathers a while back for something that fits a bit different. The sales person was talking about the extreme leather shortage for motorcycle jackets.

Carl Montalban was an Argentinian, rich corinthean leather, Cordoba casket maker (no relation to Ricardo).

Mike and Carl are casual friends.
They were high school chums in Corinth.

Carl went on to be a famous casket maker in Cordoba, notable for introducing a complete line of caskets that were each lined with buttery soft leather. This leather came from an exclusive supplier back in his home town of Corinth.

Although originally known as "cuero de la muerte", Carl coined the well known name, "Corinthian Leather" and went on to make his fortune selling this exclusive leather to Chrysler corporation.

In this rare photo, taken outside of their Cordoba estate home, Carl can be seen with his illegitimate son.

I'm sure I would not be able to jump the gun in that respect. I've experienced a lot of shortages in my life including toilet paper (I forget what year that was), drywall, cement, gas, some foods, medicine and the list goes on.

But leather? Chinese leather?

Aren't tig gloves usually made from lamb skin? I seem to recall they were much softer than leather....

Carl and I used to hang.
We would cruise around Fantasy Island in his Chrysler Cordoba after he received one free for doing the Commercials.

No, I'm not a potential manufacturer, just a reseller.
