Frikken joke!

Make the players agents start kicking in some of their salaries and bonuses, they're the ones hiking wages to stupid levels. This sport will not survive at the rate it's going, it's always someone holding someone over a barrell, add in the stadiums and cities tonthe mix as well.

Bettman has the backing of the most powerful owners. He has accomplished what they wanted and he has been rewarded as they see fit. He broke the union, expanded league revenue (a lot), increased television revenue (not in the USA, but by a lot in Canada), he has outlived and outmaneuvered several union reps, and he has made the top ten teams very very profitable. He serves the old boys club very well.

People who get angry look at the league as some sort of philanthropic amalgamation of teams and players that owes us entertainment. It's a business. For everyone invlved. Get over it.

Getting upset by GB's salary is like worrying about what the head of any corporation is paid. Salaries have grown beyond most people's comprehension. That's life.

Even amateur hockey is big business now. Why? Because we will pay to see or watch it.

Neither the league nor the players owe us anything. Vote with your wallet if you're unhappy.

Hey Joe

Looks as though the sunuvab1tsch is going to achieve his goal. No hockey 'til Christmas & possibly the whole season $chit-canned, barring any 11th hour about-face. A damn shame I say. Jeez, I can't the sight of, or the political "double-talk" (for lack of a better expression) of the sawed-off little runt. EOR (end of rant). I hope the foregoing isn't considered too Parfy

Cheers
JB

Time to start voting. I also plan to write a few letters to the owners telling them what I think.

Ditto. I'll miss it, but I got other stuff to do. Fool me once.

Baseball was toast after their time off. I never liked that most players were prima donnas with an attitude and their noses in the air. Won't even sign a baseball for a kid unless you pay them $50...
Hockey players (as a rule) are more down to earth and community minded. OK fine, the last time, the owners needed help and the players gave them almost everything they wanted. Now its not enough and this time I blame the owners!

Columnist: NHL owners are hypocrites | ProHockeyTalk

Quote:

In its initial proposal, the league not only sought to reduce the players share of revenue from 57 percent down to 43 percent, but also five year term limits on contracts.

It’s difficult, however, to accept the league’s position at face value when the owners continue to sign players to expensive, long-term contracts in the midst of CBA negotiations.

Man I'll really miss it.

But maybe being a local pee wee volunteer goalie coach will help..

The only thing worse than to lock-outs in 8 years is the league's most talented players jumping ship to play elsewhere. There are more than just a few this time and some of the names are notable:
Malkin: Crosby could play in KHL if NHL season is canceled | ProHockeyTalk
I think the players are sick of being jerked around and they are willing to go elsewhere to play the game they love. Some may not come back. I hope they give Bettman the Steve McQueen 2-fingered salute as they leave!

They will be Russians, or marginal players. The conditions in the KHL are not pleasant.

I hope you are right. Of course, if enough of the quality players go to Europe, the income for the teams will improve and conditions will get better.

Briere: “We’ve all heard that Gary thinks the fans don’t matter”

Earlier this week, Minnesota forward Zach Parise took a sneering shot at league commissioner Gary Bettman.
“We’re ready to play. We want to play,” said Parise. “But Gary’s pretty adamant about his third lockout of his tenure.”

Yesterday, Flyers forward Danny Briere took his own shot at the commish: “We’ve all heard that Gary thinks the fans don’t matter. They’re gonna be back whenever we need them. I think that says it all right there from their end.”

Rabid fans do themselves a disservice.

And Canada is full of rabid fans.

Por_sha911 08-30-2012 05:43 PM

What city do the "Rabbits" plan in? I've never heard of them.
