Fantastic work, David, you are a true craftsman, artist and gentleman. I'm proud to know you! Henry will love it and think of you when he shows it off.

Wow, that is beautifully done.

Awesome work.

Beautiful

Very nice color case hardening...that's not easy to do AND prevent warping it. Did you block it while it was in the embers ? I think that is a must. I've seen some pretty work from some guys in Cody (Ballard) and Turnbull, of course but this is easily as good.

targa911S 08-15-2012 05:52 AM

This was done by Turnbull. I do not have the knowledge, skill or resources to do case hardening. I sublet stuff like that.

Drdogface 08-15-2012 06:08 AM

I had some Ruger Vaquero frames done by Turnbull and they were not nearly that nice for some reason...not much contrast. I sent them back and 'the man' himself redid them...better but not wonderful...dunno why. Still in the safe but I shoot them a few times a year.

Eric 951 08-15-2012 06:10 AM

Oh Lordy, that's nice!

targa911S 08-15-2012 06:11 AM

I'm totally happy with his work here. I guess you get what you pay for.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the thickness of the metal?

targa911S 08-15-2012 06:36 AM

I'm sure it does, along with the composition of the steel itself. These things are like snowflakes, no two are alike.

Dunno... I had my smitty send these frames to TB because I'd seen the work and one of the employees at my Smitty's shop had just had a Blackhawk done and it was gorgeous. Mine are much better the second time.

Great result, and I have really enjoyed following along... Excellent work!!

Their investment cast frames will never take color case hardening as well as the more traditional forged and machined frames.

Dave, my hat's off to you - outstanding work. That is one beautiful gun. Henry, I'm envious.

Jeff,

I knew you'd know the answer SmileWavy
