Dang that's purdy. I've never seen metal like that on something like that.

You did the stock too, I presume. Nice.

The trigger guard itself is rust blued like the barrels. The rainbow color of the receiver and side plates is a bi product of case hardening those parts, Case hardening is like giving the metal parts an exoskeleton like shell to protect it from wear. It is a traditional process used on guns in this era, and fine guns today. The colors are fragile and will wear off in time from carrying and UV exposure.

It's not a Purdy, it's an LC Smith
Yes I rust blued the barrels and trigger guard, and refinished all the furniture re-cut the checkering where it needed it. These had flat, not peaked checkering. It also would not cock when I got it so I had to scare up/ make those parts and get it operate properly.

The case work was done by Doug Turnbull industries, a very respected name in the restoration trade.

Outstanding! I know some of these threads might feel a little like self-promotion, but I thoroughly enjoy seeing what people on this BBS are able to do, from garages, to mechanical work, to guitars to guns. Magnificent work, and thanks for sharing.
