A Pennsylvania woman who offers free lunch every day to low-income children in her neighborhood faces a $600-a-day fine next summer if she continues because she did not clear the food giveaway with township officials.

Here in Boulder, CO if I wanted to pick up other peoples trash (like at the USFS shooting range) I'd have to pay at $41.50 to get rid of it.

I have never dealt with an organization that is more corrupt, and inept than zoning offices. I hate them from the bottom of my soul, and my next move will be somewhere out in the boonies without zoning.
I had the zoning officer on my property writing down license plate numbers, trying to prove that I was operating a business before I had my permits. I put up with him for a few weeks, and then told him not to bother me until he is ready to talk to my lawyer. Funny thing is, he never came back.
I moved my business 3 times over the years, and had 2 huge battles with these jerkoffs, both times, I came out on top, but they certainly played hardball.
They actually sent the local police down to padlock my doors once. It was a local officer that I had known for years, and I said " my cars are in there, you know what I am going to do right after you leave don't you?"
A few years later, the zoning officer is trying to get me to work on his Corvette. I really wanted to give him one of those mechanic horror stories that we all read about. You know , take it apart, then hold the thing for a year, make him take me to court, and spend some money. I just declined to work on it instead.

Sounds like a no-brainer. You'd think they'd be supportive of someone helping poor kids. Probably wouldn't bother her if she had a meth lab going.

No, you are only allowed to help the poor through institutions of forced charity, such as: WIC, Food Stamps, EDD, Social Security, Medicare, etc. Failure to comply will result in fines and/or imprisonment.
