bump

If any of you ever need a loyal dog Heelers are very loyal. I'm sure that he didn't leave his owner.

Rick V 08-19-2012 03:47 AM

I have a message sent to a friend of mine who loves those dogs. It's ironic that Beth and I had a conversation yesterday about getting another dog but we are not home enough.
Shared on FB as well.
If I cared for people as much as I do for animals I would actually be a nice guy.

Baz 08-19-2012 05:24 AM

Thanks Jim and Rick.....appreciate the efforts and comments. I feel the same way you do Rick. :)

+1 on dat.

Good luck with the little guy Baz. Will be thinking positive thoughts.

cashman 08-19-2012 06:24 AM

Bump for the little guy. I already have 2 dogs and a cat. He looks friendly.

Rick V 08-19-2012 07:06 AM

I have had a a friend in that area like the page as well as my wife. I have no idea why but I really want to see this dog adopted.

VaSteve 08-19-2012 08:53 AM

I talked to the lady in the contact. She said she's got funding to cover him through the end of the week. He'll be neutered this week. She said he was friendly and weighs about 28 pounds.

Baz, not sure your connection, but I will keep thread updated as I hear more info (or if he comes home with me).

Baz 08-19-2012 01:16 PM

Hey guys.....wow thanks so much for your caring and efforts!

Look at that first photo......this little one just wants someone to love!

He's speckled like my rescue girl too - but he still has his tail!!!

Steve - you're a saint for posting the update. The contact is a just another FB friend who loves ACD's and is involved in rescue. Choctaw looks like he would be a great companion - I hope it works out - and yes please keep us posted! :)

Baz 08-19-2012 01:21 PM

There's those ears!

I would love to have him but I have three Jack Russells rescues already and can't have any more right now. I hope that he will find a new home soon. With that face and those eyes I think we will find a new home soon.

Ha ha. Do you have little kids? The lady who posted him said she was going to check him out with kids but she needed to "borrow some". LOL.

mikesride 08-19-2012 08:59 PM

I'm too far away to be much help. My blue is the smartest most loyal dog I have ever had. Somebody make the move.....you will not be disappointed!

Rick V 08-20-2012 12:49 AM

only 28 lbs? I have a cat that almost weighs that much.

Hi Rick,

You must have a fairly good-sized kiddle!

My rescue girl was about this weight (28 lbs.) when she adopted me 6 years ago but since has filled out to around 40 lbs. which is average for this breed. Thankfully, her personality has blossomed also - now she knows how to "be a dog". She was intimidated very easily before. She still has some issues....must have been terribly mistreated by her PO.

Rick V 08-20-2012 02:52 PM

Any luck finding a home? I would take her if I could. Something about that little dog.......

Still waiting to hear back from the contact. She had him such a short time, she was trying to do a further asssrssment. I don't think it's a time critical as it was but she said she can't bring him home since she had like 8 dogs. One of the people on her Facebook account said shed take him, but is in Wisconsin. So who knows. Sounds like People in the for sale forum here. No follow through. Will keep yo all posted if I hear anything. I think he'd fit in nice with my dog.

VaSteve 08-20-2012 05:47 PM

She said he's chilling at the kennel, but is laid back and sweet. She said she's going to take him to petsmart to be around people And others on Wednesday if he hasn't had the big surgery.

Thanks for the update Steve.....both of my girls are right by my side as I type this.....keeping good vibes for little Laylo! :)

VaSteve 08-21-2012 05:28 AM

Laylo is getting neutered on Thursday. Christine also said Bazz seems like a nice guy. :)

VaSteve 08-22-2012 01:36 PM

dtw 08-22-2012 02:10 PM

Steve, Just got home and read this...that's terrific! I hope it works out. Have you had a Heeler before?

All dogs are special - I'm a little partial to Heelers but there are many other breeds I also am partial to and love and that includes mixed breeds - they are ALL so very special.

Please keep us posted including new pics if you can....dang...this is very cool....:p:p:p

Baz 08-22-2012 06:57 PM

Just saw the new pics...he is one handsome Heeler.....beautiful spotting...and he has a tail!

http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...27487410_n.jpg

Looks to have a great personality too Steve....:)

varmint 08-22-2012 07:30 PM

congratulations

they will ignore you for the first few days. after that they are your best friend for life.

i don't know why people dock the tails. might have made sense on a cattle ranch in 1890. doesn't now.

they are cat chasers.

disturbingly smart

the farts can blister the paint off a car.

they will eat themselves fat if you let them.

any behavioral problems can be cured with this...

Rick V 08-23-2012 12:59 AM

Good for you Steve. I am sure Zander will have a field day with that guy.

VaSteve 08-23-2012 03:07 AM

She must have put the photos on facebook too...i was lazy and didnt get to uploading them from my email.

Yes, provided he doesnt bite my daughter or Lex, he'll come back to VA with us. Lex is a lab, cattle dog mix and he's about 2 as well so it should be fun. The kids dont know about all this yet, so it should be quite an adventure.

VaSteve 08-23-2012 03:13 AM

Oh yeah, not worried too much about the cat. She's old but she's dealt with new kids and a new dog. She laid down the law pretty early with Lex. She has safe places to go as well.

VINMAN 08-23-2012 03:43 AM

Awesome ,Steve! Heelers are the greatest.

dennis in se pa 08-23-2012 03:45 AM

You are getting a great dog.
Around here we call this an "adoption". I see the word "rescue" being used here. This dog was not facing being put down, or they would not have neutered him.
If anyone is being "rescued" it is a human.

Actually, he's being nuetered today. When this was posted, the situation was dire. The "rescue" organization was able to get some donations to cover a few days' boarding and the nuetering. I'll let someone else who has a computer, not a phone, in front of them explain how it works.

Seahawk 08-23-2012 05:48 AM

Great news.

They are indeed great dogs.

Best, Steve.

Rikao4 08-23-2012 05:51 AM

well done..
best way to met Lex's..
is on a walk...
then take them home together..

GothingNC 08-23-2012 08:42 AM

Steve,

Congrats on the new dog !

I picked up a Blue Heeler mix (90% BH) from the SPCA last year.

He is a great fit with the family/kids and we had no problem with crate training.

You might want to wear a gas mask if he is sleeping next to you on the couch and stock up on tennis balls.

cashman 08-23-2012 08:48 AM

Glad to see this happen. Longevity would not have been too long if he had to go to the Gastonia shelter. This is definetly a "rescue".

VaSteve 08-23-2012 09:01 AM

Two guys talking about the farts....now I'm worried. Actually, Lex must have that part of BH in him aside from the markings.

VINMAN 08-23-2012 09:03 AM

They definately enjoy the gas attacks thats for sure. :D

VaSteve 08-23-2012 09:22 AM

None of this is mentioned in the AKC literature. LOL
