Credit card question, What's going on here?

My American Express card number was lifted last week. No problem, AMEX caught it right away and sent me a new card. But I was supposed to log in to americanexpress.com/confirmcard.com to activate my card. Typing that URL into the browser brought up all these sites. I didn't click on any of them, I called AMEX to activate the card. What are these bogus sites up to?

Any of the americanexpress.com urls are legit. AmEx adds preffixes to these, such as online. or global. to help them keep their domains organized. The other ones look like they provide instructions, but aren't trying to spoof anything.

Calling AmEx directly and doing it that way is certainly the safe bet though.

One would wonder why you are searching instead of just entering the direct URL that you were given.

Actually... one wonders when people started accepting browsers hijacking everything over to a search instead of trying what is entered as a valid domain name or URL.... and this one is too lazy to go look at code releases to figure it out.

The actual link you want - https://www.americanexpress.com/confirmcard

My card went through a skimmer a few weeks ago, what a mess. Apparently my cards have been hacked 8 times in the last year. Several companies have security issues every year and keep it out of media. Best thing to do set up a seperate bank account and seperate card for all risky transactions.

It was a pleasure activating your AMEX card for you! Please ignore the fraud alerts, as they are just tests to make sure the system is operating properly.

Pretty sure AMEX doesn't use smiley faces on any of their webpages.

Also wouldn't trust any page that didn't start with americanexpress.com (but we just had our annual internet security training so I am paranoid)

Short of typing in the exact URL as mentioned - I have their website bookmarked, pretty sure you can go there and activate your card.

Ooops. Looks like I typed it into the search window instead of the browser window. My mistake.

That is the EXACT URL I typed in. I copied it right off the card, typed it character for character. No laziness involved, asswipe.

The best line is from West Fargo: "... If we detect a bad transaction we will help you resolve it..."

Help me resolve it, WTF... Maybe different North of the border but here there is no "we will help you resolve it" they take the loss, end of the fuchen story...
