How to handle excess pussy?

We have 3 indoor cats, and 4 outdoor 'strays' that we had fixed and brought current on their shots, and we feed on a regular basis.

Like a microcosm of the welfare state of California, more freeloaders have shown up looking for a handout.

One is an adorable calico that I named "Scruffy" (before I knew her gender, because apparently I didn't know about the whole calico allele thing) She's sweet and docile and lovey-dovey - she likes being handled, and apart from needing a brushing, she's a great cat. I think she's someone's pet that got lost, but we haven't found where her home is yet.

The latest one isn't as nice. We've named him Leo. He's a bit of a bully, and is constantly whining - loudly. The only thing that will shut him up is a cup of Meow Mix. He's pretty much moved in like he owns the place. He's smart and he's bold; he'll walk right up to within a couple of paces behind me when I'm passing out food. He got trapped in the garage, and I was blocking the door, trying to catch him. Yeah, right. He walked right up to within 4' of me, then shot up, bounced across some milk crates and jumped right over my head. He then sat down 4' away on the other side, looked at me as if to say "Is that all you got, beeotch?"

Long-story-short, we're not sure what to do with Leo. We think he's another pet that got out, because while we can't handle him, he's not afraid of us, and vocalizes a lot; that's not really feral behavior. On top of that, he seems really healthy. The problem with him is he's constantly howling, and he bullies the other "established" cats. My wife wanted to take him down to the ASPCA, but I think that would pretty much be a death sentence, since he's not super friendly. My thought was to trap him, get him fixed, then turn him loose somewhere else. I know, that doesn't solve anything - he just becomes someone else's problem, but at least he's not my problem anymore.

Leo

Actually, your idea makes sense! First, have you checked to see if he's chipped? That may solve your problem right there. Otherwise, having him neutered may make a more docile, quiet(er), and friendlier Leo, and you won't have to or want to dump him.

I feel your pain, we have the same exact situation. We have at least 7 ferals that stop by for a meal. We've caught and fixed all but one. They tend to come and go in cycles. If you have a neighbors cat coming by for food he will still go home at some point, just dont bring him in to your house. Cats are cool. If you watch them play fight its like they know jiu jitsu.

All of our cats are fixed including the 2 barn cats. If any others show up I give them a ride home to another farm far far away. As soon as they are caught they go for a ride. If we can't catch the cat then we don't feed the barn cats for a day or 2 then we put food out in the end of a have-a-heart trap. Viola! Stray cat is caught.

Leo looks like a Bengal. Might account for his fabulous jumping ability as well.
