Just In Time Fo X-mas...

20 American Oak Barrels were rolled across Canada in 10 cities.

The batch come from those barrels.

The same concept may have run in other country (was also done in the US).

Glan Fiddich, Glen Morangie, Balvienie are all good choices. Basically most of the Speyside scotch whisky is very good and not as heavily peated.

This is a new one for us. I generally like Oban or Glenfiddich but have to say this may be a new favorite.

The Yamazaki whisky, is a little sweet like a bourbon, sort of tastes like whiskey and bourbon mixed together (in a very good way).

Should have made the original list now that I think about it.

That is a nice haul JJ !! You must have been good this year ! I enjoyed the Lasanta when I toured the Glenmorangie distillery back in September. I thought it to be quite tasty !

Not exactly... But I'll indulge

Yes the Lasanta is quite nice. The Cask of Dream was very nice, superior to last year Snow Phoenix.

I never had Balblair, looking forward to it.

Edradour 13, if you can find it. The smallest distillary in Scotland. Delightful nose, honey flavoured, nectar of the gods.

I did very well this year, and picked a number of my favourite Islays for Xmas- Lagavulin, Laphroigh- even a Highland Glenfaclas, with bonus tasting bottles of different cask vintages. Like.

But one bottle stands out. Im a big fan of Ardbeg, and now I have a bottle of the Ardbeg "Uigeadail". I think this is one of the most interesting and complex Islay whiskey Ive ever had. Do try.

The other night my daughter visiting from college this holiday says, "Dad, learn me about scotch." We own a winery, so we mainly talk about wine, blah, blah. But she remembers I was a scotch drinker years ago. So I replenished the inventory and set up a line to walk her through a couple of areas and styles:

The Aberlour was sublime, the Lagvulin shone. For comparison, I pulled a basic Bourbon (Lexington) and I might have to take a longer trip down Bourbon lane.

yes it surely is. Lagavulin may just have been unseated as King of the Island for me. But the great thing about whiskey...it doesn't care if you fancy another whiskey... -)

As already said, you cannot go wrong with The Macallan & Balvienie's. My gold standard is Lagavulin 16 or the Distillers Edition Double Wood. Simply sublime but I acknowledge they ain't for everyone.

And here is the collection we put together for my 50th birthday celebration last year. That was a pretty good night.

I scanned a table mat from a tasting event from a few years back.

Shows the location of a few popular brands.
