there's an L39 that flies semi regularly out of vny, he is an accident looking for a place to happen. he takes off vfr without flight following and heads towards the desert blasting through some of the most congested airspace in socal (the San Fernando valley) just hope he doesn't take out an innocent bystander

There's a bunch of L39s out there running around. A few are used by the Patriot Jet team - they do airshows around the country.

Also saw two private ones in April 2009 that flew into the Mojave airport for lunch after running around for fun.

I rather like the looks of the F-5 Freedom Fighter.
When I was in WI for a trip one year, I stumbled upon a privately owned Saab Draken.

Not sure if there's any in private hands. Most got used as target drones.

That would be the V tail. They are okay in the rest.

The guy I bought my Debonair from has a L-39, along with several hangars full of various planes from the 40's to now.
I was told that he was a former Motorola executive. Now retired and just hangs out with his planes.

I don't know if I would call the F4 the finest looking but without a doubt one of the most sinister looking. Painted matte black with Vader under the canopy in red would fit it just fine. Very versatile aircraft and set some records in its day.
I like a lot of the fighters as well as the SR71 and the B58 from that era. The F15 always looked pretty majestic to me as well. I would love to have a T38.

Ive always loved the Phantom since I was a kid. But never really realized how big there are until I sat in one. But it really hit, when I seen a f-16 parked next to one. the 16 looks like a toy next to it.

I've loved the F86 since I was a kid and they were the hottest thing during the Korean War, along with the Mig-15.. I could never afford one, but I can dream. The F-5 would be fun also I think. I'm amazed at how small the F86 and Mig-15 are compared to most planes today. Even Joe's picture shows how small they are.

That appearance is what appeals to so many, including me. Looks like nothing else. Early on, it was a disaster in 'nam... someone decided it didn't need guns, only AAM's (that were so unreliable that only about a third functioned as designed). There was no provision for guns in the plane design, so a pod had to be added under the nose. |

I think the F-100 looks very purposeful to this day.

I saw a privately owned F-104 Starfighter at an airshow in Ohio. Very brave man!

My pick would first be subsonic over any supersonic than I'd go right out a buy the F-86, but then again I might forget what I just stated and settle for a well sorted T-38
