PARF thread that started here...funny stuff!

Some of y'all may remember this thread but since it was PARF'd, probably haven't kept up (I haven't either). The thread has also caused me to venture over there WAY more than a sane adult should recently, and I actually posted a opinion poll there by accident. I swear, you can't make this stuff up....just go to the last page or so... :)

Rather ironic, isn't it?:D

scottbombedout 09-05-2012 06:23 AM

Holy crap.

GH85Carrera 09-05-2012 06:27 AM

That is a classic example of PARF. It is not funny, just pitiful.

sc_rufctr 09-05-2012 06:35 AM

I spend a bit of time in PARF. I try to restrain myself from posting but often can't help myself.

I'm not surprised by the content of that thread... If you think that's bad you ain't see nothing yet.
Insults fly left and right and personal attacks are common but if you can read past that there are some interesting posts that make you think.

I joined Pelican so I could restore and maintain my 911. PARF was an unexpected "bonus" and as I've said a few times it does have value.
People get to voice their HONEST heart felt opinion. Do you know how rare that is?

Tobra 09-05-2012 06:44 AM

That happens in pretty much every thread that JE928 guy posts in

Jim Richards 09-05-2012 06:49 AM

...and his stalker.

Dantilla 09-05-2012 07:28 AM

PARF is like a gold mine- Ya gotta go through a bunch of dirt to find the occasional nugget.

Plenty of threads begin with an interesting dialog. With rare exceptions, any thread that has reached the third page has most likely degenerated to kindergarten levels of intelligence.

I do appreciate the PARFers that post reasoned arguements back and forth, as it helps sharpen my thinking.
Just takes a while to find the worthwhile discussions.

classic?

You mean, classic for a dead thread to have those two go at each other?

I suppose that makes this thread classic OT. ...you know, a bunch of voyeuristic OT people looking in to, and using example of, a dead PARF thread to make themselves feel smart.

Please, go on about "sane adults" and "just pitiful"

A (snip) person who gets shot and killed is labelled a 'dummy'. People who think maybe the shooting was questionable are '%^$*ing morons', posters take positions before any facts are known, they suggest actions were legal (or illegal) without even bothering to check the relevant laws, etc etc...

No thanks. I went once and saw enough to know I have no interest in the petty name calling and irrational 'logic'.

I wish we had more of that. I participate in parf and am as guilty as anyone of bad behavior. But I do enjoy hearing differing views and even seeing some of the insults (they're funny). Unfortunately more often than not lately the threads go straight downhill and I think it's just not worth it.

PARF probably isn't for you if you can't accurately cite or interpret what people actually wrote or what happened.

1990C4S 09-05-2012 08:06 AM

If you didn't label the deceased a 'dummy' I will apologize for mischaracterizing your thread.

I will agree that it's not for me. There's no shame in admitting that I find the two statements above deplorable given that a person was just killed. Mentally ill or not, (and I'm referring to the shooting victim) those statements are bit too callous for me.

I don't deny your right to make them, I just wish they had started in PARF.

I did. But it had nothing to do with his being homeless or mentally ill, which your previous post implied. You make it sound like the dead guy was a victim because he may have been homeless or mentally ill. He initiated an unprovoked physical attack. He is not the victim, he is the aggressor. On second thought, maybe PARF is for you. Strawman arguments and a bleeding heart, victim mentality work well there.

Spot on.

This describes perfectly those who can't handle PARF.

1990C4S 09-05-2012 08:17 AM

Rick: If you did not know he was mentally ill when you started the thread then please accept my apology for mischaracterizing your post. I will edit my previous post if this is the case.

I still find the general tone and language inappropriate when a person was just killed.

techweenie 09-05-2012 08:18 AM

Amazing stuff. I kinda like this guy JE928sx4

His being mentally ill was not mentioned in the article I posted.

And it doesn't matter what his state of mind was at the time of the attack. His victim had no way of knowing that and cannot be expected to take a beating to the point of death or grave bodily harm, hoping the attacker is mentally ill and doesn't really mean any harm.

Jim Richards 09-05-2012 08:26 AM

dipso is funny.

1990C4S 09-05-2012 08:29 AM

It's an issue of compassion for a dead person and possibly his family. I'm not arguing the shooters legal rights.

The inability to see that 'fact' typifies PARF.

No doubt the was a 'dummy': it's dumb to attack a guy with a gun.

My kids do dumb things. I don't call them dummies.

speeder 09-05-2012 08:33 AM

PARF is like a fishbowl of abject personality disorders. Mostly bullies, but quite a few "little man complexes" and oh yeah, a whole lot of ignorance and bad spelling/grammar. Other than that, it's a nice place. :)

RWebb 09-05-2012 08:54 AM

I like how all the PARFers come out of the woodwork to defend themselves on OT

I like it anytime the Parfessor comes out of the woodwork. It's always good for a laugh. I really mean that. You make this a better place.

I had to go back and read through that thread, to make sure I was accurate. I rarely unsuscribe, so I've been seeing an occasional snippet via email. That said, that "dead thread" degraded on page 3 less than 24 hours old. Yesterday, I did participate in a legitimate, serious discussion about LBOs (happened to catch my attention about something I've experienced first hand), and there you were with your political jabs about "leftists" or something. Sorry to insult you political domain (PARF playground) with serious opinions about a "business model" that I (and most Republicans I've worked with) find totally repugnant....off to PARF with this one too I imagine :)....

speeder 09-05-2012 09:43 AM

You hit those guys with facts they don't like and they respond like a mongoose backed into a corner.

and don't forget the name calling - look at Rickie calling me names above for example

Rick Lee 09-05-2012 10:12 AM

I am quite the name caller. Rest assured, "Parfessor" is an honorific. I can't get anything better than "lil' wickie" or "wanker," but then I'm a mere mortal and accept my lot in life.

GH85Carrera 09-05-2012 10:18 AM

In before this one is sent to PARF land!

Which will be in

3, 2, 1 .....

Rick Lee 09-05-2012 10:23 AM

Does it have to go to PARF just because someone is butt hurt? What political or religious issue is being discussed here?

Which do you mean:

1) Serious and intellectual discussion

2) Other

I sure can't handle much of option 2 :)

fintstone 09-05-2012 10:35 AM

With that criteria...almost all of OT would be suspect.

nostatic 09-05-2012 10:39 AM

OT isn't nearly as mean-spirited. In PARF there are a few that are just flat out rude. Then when called on it, the response is usually along the lines of "can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen" or "geez, no sense of humor." Easier to just find another place to hang out rather than put up with that. The chaff/wheat ratio is just way too high for my thin skin. Ymmv.

72doug2,2S 09-05-2012 10:42 AM

It is my opinion that PARF should be a place to sharpen the mind in a non-emotive way. If more of us did that, it would serve us all well. We, as a whole, are too permissive and passive.

It has been said time and time again, those who resort to name calling have lost the argument.
Now I don't mind a clever attack, but base crudity without even humour is conceding the match.
