Shaving soap recommendation?

I’ve been using Mitchell’s Wool Fat for the past two pucks. I like it a lot, but know there are a lot of soaps out there and want to try something else. Yes, I’ve been to Badger & Blade, but that is like asking the 911 tech forum which oil.

I presume you are using a brush?

There is some fancy French stuff that comes in a aluminum can I like a lot that I got recomeded over on B&B.

I also like the soap from "straight razor" website (their own brand).

And the company from Portland Maine makes good stuff.

I see if I can find some links.

Goat Milk shaving solid bar.
Local shops.
Great for air travel.
Very little fragrance.

This is what I use. C.O. Bigelow Premium Shave Cream - Shaving - Men

Inexpensive and it lasts a long time. Good too.

Thanks for the thread. I am in need of some shaving lotion and just ordered the Bigelow as noted above. Will report back once I try it.

I just use an Ivory soap bar. It's usually soft on the bottom and lathers up pretty good rubbed on the stubble. I can't stand smells, so Ivory is good for me.

Just awesome stuff...

thanks guys. I have only used soaps, might need to try a cream. The goat milk sounds interesting and will look for some.

To answer first reply, using Edwin Jagger brush. Also use a Merkur 34C razor with feather blades.

Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps Retail Store: Organic Shaving Gels

Goto The Body Shop and the cute sales assistant will show you the Maca Root Shave Cream. It's slightly oily so the razor glides across you skin leaving fresh and fragrant. Well, that's a load of s*** but they make a nice shave cream and doesn't have irratants such a fragrants.

+1 for Dr. Bronners

Am I the only person on here that just uses soap or shampoo or whatever is lying around in reach?

This isn't another one of those pedicure threads, is it?

Use "The Art of Shaving" - oil, brush, (sharp) razor and after shave cream. It's heaven. It's one of my very few "metrosexual" vices and it has literally transformed an activity that I used to hate into one I actually look forward to. That occasional 5-10 minutes of self-pampering is quite enjoyable and the quality of the shave is excellent. Baby butts the world over are jealous of my face when I'm done. :)

Somerset Oil. It comes in a tiny bottle so no problem for air travel, its relatively cheap, and two drops is all that's needed for a smooth shave.

I use a mix of baby oil and Noxzema cream, and I don't use a brush. I tried those expensive shaving creams but was unimpressed. As was mentioned earlier - a good double edge razor and cream make it a positive experience for me. You know you've gotten a smooth shave when the after shave (I use regular Sea Breeze) does not burn.

I use the same stuff I use in the shower. It's a liquid body wash.
Modern razors with built in lube strips work well.

gr8fl4porsche 09-11-2012 05:30 AM

I have been using regular soap in the shower with the vibrating Fusion razor and I find the shave terrible. That's why I ordered some of the fancy metro stuff.

RWebb 09-11-2012 11:49 AM

y'all crack me up - we used to use gators to shave with in La.

once I done moved up to Orygun we started using a nice sharp axe (C-sharp for some) juuust like everybody else

my advice is to be real careful if you use your double bit ax
