Hey Tabs...why spoon and not spork?
 

Several posters have recently inquired about "our" spoon terminology. I don't believe it's to get past "filters" (i.e. corporate sites etc. as they just don't work that way), so now I'm curious. Why did this originate...just for grins?

i bet Tabs asked Mother "Mum, i want a gun" she said no son, that's to dangerous.. guns kill people.. Tabs thought about it long and hard.. and said "eff it" i'll tell her i'm into fancy expensive spoons" And so he did.. Mother thought it was cute.. gave her blessing to break the piggybank to go buy a spoon.. and he's been buying spoons ever since..

Few colloquialisms have well-understood origins. Maybe it is better just to roll with it.

It was a readers mistake. TABS actually does collect spoons. Real spoons. Sterling. Some with historical associations. He also collects firearms. For similar reasons. A long time ago a Pelican poster thought TABS reference to his spoon collection was referring to firearms. True story.

Let's hope Tabs hasn't gotten washed away in the Vegas flooding :(

Fwiw I think Tabdulla collects spoons too!

Tabdula the Great collects a lot of things...

Yet he gathers no moss...

An expression we use here and in the UK. Tabs was taking the piss.

But the spoons that mother gives you won't do anything at all...

I was around when he did talk about spoons. Real spoons. I missed the day that the word took on the new meaning. I also missed the thread where all SC owners started calling each other "doctor." But one day everyone was doctor. We're going back a long way.

I could be wrong, but it might have been Joe Bob that inadvertently launched the "spoon" mis-speak. Or was that Coboy hat? :D

Someone apparently misspelled cowboy in one of those self narrated cartoons while typing in the text.. So it came out co-boy. It stuck.

That was back in the R Gruppe bashing days.

The use of the word "Spoon" is just a device to stay low key and not advertise what is being talked about.
