targa Newfoundland 2012.....

Who's going to the targa Newfoundland this year?
I'll be going up as support for a client, we are running a 79 911SC.....
We finished last year and got our plate...which was the goal....to finish.
This year we are going to be pushing for a win :-)

There are two routes via water to get to "the rock, the granite planet or whatever you want to call it" it will show you Nature at it's rugged best!
One ferry leaves North Sydney (in Nova Scotia) and goes to Port Aux Basque (about 6~8 hours) then you'll have to drive about 10 hours across the island to get to St. John's. The other ferry leaves North Sydney and lands in Argentia after a 10~12 hour steam, then you'd have to drive a couple hours to get to St. John's. I live in Clarenville (about 2 hours from St. John's and you'll no doubt be staying there for at least one of your nights. Unfortunately I'll be out of province when Targa is happening this year, but I'll tell Edison to get you a bottle of Screech. I donated my '79SC to him about 5 years ago so he could run it in Targa so you'll have some good competition!
All the best,
Gary

Wink

Then you'll be arriving at Argentia (it was built by the US and used as a US navy base during the war). If this year is like the last ones, at the end of the week long Targa race, you'll end up back in St. John's for the final stage. Then... you will have a chance to enjoy the famous "George Street" bar scene!

i'm game to meet up with whoever for a beer, i'll post more as we get closer to then.....
my t-mobile phone however won't work up there, so emails or pm's will be best for contact.....i will have a canadien cell phone once i cross the border though, just don't have that number yet.....

Good luck, bell... try to keep the greasy side down... I've seen some wacky shunts in past races shown on TV... but most of all have fun. Beautiful gravel slinger you've got there.

Thanks!
Leg 2 is north to new York to swap to a bigger truck (hemi ram), were bypassing NYC/Boston traffic, and will be at the ferry Thursday evening.....then an 8 hour drive through moose country to st johns.....
I'm the wrench on this mission, our drivers are a couple of good Ole imsa/endurance racers, car is dialed in thanks to some shakedown days at Sebring and Roubling......

Are you crossing the US/Canada border at St Stephen? If so, you'll likely be driving past my city (saint john NB). Let me know if you'll be stopping, even for breakfast/lunch/supper. Glad to help in any way I can
