NorCal-SoCal Shuttle Alert
If you see it and you can figure which way it is headed, post it up.
The SoCal flight: Endeavour will fly over the following landmarks — in no particular order Los Angeles City Hall. The California Science Center near USC. The Getty Center. Griffith Observatory. The Queen Mary. The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. Malibu, Venice and Huntington beaches. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Caņada Flintridge. Universal Studios. Disneyland. Don't know the NorCal route other than Sacramento and San Francisco on to Monterrey. |

I work just east of LAX, so I should get a good view of the plane's belly as it's coming in for a landing. Last I heard was landing between 11:30am and 12:30pm.

It will enter "SoCal airspace" at 11:30 am. I guess look towards the observatory. I can't quite figure out the logical way to fly over all the points mentioned, but my guess is the Pasadena leg will be last before heading into LAX. Should be after Noon.

I think it's heading from Sacramento to San Francisco right now.
EDIT: They say ETA at Golden Gate Bridge is 10:15am.

That tight banked turn before landing seems odd to me.
![]() But what do I know? I guess I'll mosey on down to Signal Hill for a look at the coastline. |

It just flew past my place so close that I could almost touch it...ran out to roof w/o camera because I heard people whooping and hollering...no pictures but man what a thrill. It was on final approach to LAX. Really, really low and close. WOW.
I'm so pissed about not grabbing iPhone...was dicking around doing some work and on internet and lost track of time until I heard people shouting. Jet was LOUD...really close. Two military jets escorting it.

Shuttle over the East Bay | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Should be a clip of the 747/Shuttle cruising along the east bay hills across from San Francisco with F-15 escort. |

I saw it pass over Ames Moffett around 10:30, it banked over our parking lot escorted by a fighter jet, flying at around 500 feet!!!
I left my camera at home, so a little bummed out about that, but what a sight. Nothing quite like seeing a historic event fly right over head!

Strange Question:
Why is there a fighter jet flying escort? Everytime I have seen the shuttle on the 747 it has a T-38 with it. I have never seen a military aircraft.

Saw it going around the LA area. It headed south along the coast and then turned east towards the Cal Science center then came back west via the same route to the coast and then north and west around Wilshire blvd past Getty and towards Universal like the plan says.

I'm not sure how accurate it is (local talking heads on channel 4) but I heard yesterday when it arrived at Edwards that it had a security escort and another T-38 photo documenting the flight. I'm not sure if thats all the time or just for this last flight.

It flew right over our house. I mean right over. We went to a vantage point about 1/4 mile on top of the hill and was able to see it three times. Lucky I was screwing around and decided to not go to work today due to the really bad traffic at the fwy entrance, so I turned around and headed home. This thing is BIG. Made the little jets look like ants.
