I would find a 1974 Ford Bronco if you want to go down this road.....parts and mods much more available and cheap.........and it looks better.

I would only buy it if you plan on pulling the guts and swapping them out for Ford/Toyota running gear. Unless you have a real torch for it, I would pass. I can't imagine the parts cost. Yikes.

$5,000??? I think he added a zero by mistake. That's a carcass looking for a decent drivetrain.

buy a new one, it will be cheaper!

go to rovers north for a quicky parts pricing edumacation.

ask me how i know.

72-88

67-109

91 rover

some of our dyed in the wool fanatical "bug" guys own ROVER TECH here in snobbsdale,az.

the ONLY SMART thing to do to old ones is poo can the "petrol" or "dees-kill" motors and slap either a chevy 250 or chevy 292 6 cylinder in them with advance adapter plates to trannies and REWIRE THE WHOLE DAM THING to avoid breaking down or a fire!

ask me how i know! had quite the fun putting one out ON FIRE IN BAJA WITH SAND due to LUCAS ELECTRICALS!

No way in hell. I've seen decent driver quality Series and early grey-market Defenders for $10k. That looks like a $500 truck in need of a full restoration. If you want to spend $5k on a project/driver 4x4 get an old Land Cruiser or Bronco.

I have had several old Land Rovers from 1951 to 1967 and have enjoyed them all. Not everything always worked at the same time, but remained drivable and fun. Parts are available but can be hard to find and/or expensive. They look decent when painted with a rattle can or a brush. I would buy that one but probably not at the asking price. Old Series owners always think that their vehicle is more valuable than it can be sold for.

Good Luck!

Nothing wrong with a Series Landy and for the most part they aren't bad on maintenance. Parts are even pretty reasonable. That one is pretty over priced though. I'd say it's worth 2k tops. If you find a decent one though, they're a ton of fun

Yeah, basically what OWP said. There's a guy in Atlanta that specializes in grey earl defenders for 9-12k depending on wheel base and engine.

ask me how i know. I'll tell you what I know.

72-88 Nope

67-109 Yes

91 rover Absolutely NOT

The best was when I saw BRAND NEW in the lot, RR County editions with galvanic corrosion on the doors and crusted rust on the tailgate edges. RRNA took a look at them and quietly took them back. A few owners were given new replacement vehicles. Electrical gremlin's galore.

ask me how i know! had quite the fun putting one out ON FIRE IN BAJA WITH SAND due to LUCAS ELECTRICALS!
In reply ^

did i tell you that the 109 is a carawagon? yes a POP TOP! with reefer/gas stove/sink/bunks?etc. one actually photographed as late as the 1st gulf war, that the limeys were still using................go figure!

ours has ARB locker/dual batteries/solar panel/jerry cans everywhere etc.

did i tell you that in its previous life it(109) went on african safari and had the living POO run out of it! until found in san francisco years ago.

did i tell you that rover of north snobbsdale wants 40 bucks for a freeking oil filter for the 1990's v-8?

did i tell you that around 1997 models or so rover of north snobbsdale REFUSES to WORK ON THEM ANYMORE!

and thats how our friends who were rover techs trained by rover got shafted by rover for man hours per job, finally decided after seeing so many being turned away to become private ROVER TECHS and start their own biz.

their parking lot is FULL with these POS! and THEY ARE GETTING RICH FIXING THEM!

yeah they look real cool, but try finding parts/try fixing them along the side of the road(which is actually close to help) and TRY finding parts for them in the middle of baja or africa.

and thats why WE went with chevy 6 cylinders (250/292) cuz theres millyons of those in mexico!

the rust prevention(NOT) on them is because the limeys just dont give a poo about rust prevention or their electrics.

yeah................lets go on safari! ummmm...............i'll watch thank you.
