WTF? They were non-compliant to a lawful police order like failure to move a car thru an intersection and they get pepper-sprayed?

WTF is wrong with this world!

- the issue, as some saner minds have noted, is about use of force by the po-po

ABuse of force actually. Throwing bottles and swinging sticks at the cops warrants a dousing with pepper spray. This didn't.

Still and all, a contrived baited event designed to provoke a response that the rent a cops rose to promptly and predictably.

I know the exact spot where this happened. They weren't even obstructing foot traffic. Huge quad criss crossed with walkways. This was peaceful assembly. Nothing more. I disagree with the politics they represent, the the pepper spray assault was ridiculous. I think a few people lost their jobs over this. Good.

My daughter was at UC Davis at the time but she was busy "occupying" the library. :)

Good thing they weren't holding babies and reaching for cell phones... ...for that you get executed.

You left out the part about threatening others with a gun first. How convenient.

You have to go back and watch the video of that going down. Talk about a lot of empathy from that cop. Dowsing those kids like they were a fence line and he's spraying round up! If they sit there peacefully and don't want to move and you need to clear the area for whatever reason, you go pick them up one by one and ship them off to the station in the paddy wagon. At the station you can give them a ticket and send them on their way. Of course, it is easier to spray them, but that doesn't make it right IMHO.

Oh you saw that? No. There was a complaint of that. Last I remember a citizens complaint was not a trial and conviction in this country. So if i call the cops to your house and say you were threatening me with a gun, thats enough to sentence you too death, so long as you "move improperly"...

Hope that never happens you you Rick, becuase i can imagine quite a few scenarios where that could happen to me. Disgruntled neigbor and cops wake me up put of a dead sleep for example.

Jim Richards 09-27-2012 03:59 AM

When the gun is put down or put away, the threat level dropped. No need for a shot in the head while there's no gun in his hand. Just arrest the guy for his alleged act of threatening with a gun and let the judicial system sort it out.

My daughter begins her freshman year today at UCD; your daughter's strategy is exactly my instructions (OK, it was a recommendation!) to my kid regarding where to be when a demonstration is taking place (or not!) :D

You've got a smart daughter...go Aggies!!!

He Zhi Hua, a villager in Changsha Village, China who tried to resist a forced government relocation, was crushed to death by a steamroller on the orders of a Chinese government official.

The story was censored in China’s state controlled media, but has caused outrage on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, reports infowars.com.

Hua refused to accept a small payment from the government which has forcefully evicted locals in order use their land for commercial use.

Hua protested by lying down on the spot through which construction vehicles had to drive. That's when the local Vice Mayor ordered workers to murder Hua by driving over his body with a steamroller.

To censor the story, the Chinese government sent in 200 men to keep angry locals at bay and hide the remains of the body. Hua’s family was offered money in order to keep quiet.

And if they'd been protesting an abortion clinic or an Obama fund raiser?

Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't make them wrong
