RL's 993 forum is still excellent. I don't hang there anymore, but on the rare occasion I have an issue, that's where I go for help and always find it.

Too bad, so sad
I made one post to RL and got banned by Dunkle the Soup Nazi. So no love lost here. Checking PP showed it's not uncommon (being banned), so I guess I have some company in the No Soup For You category.
Interesting, that Dunkle also wants to be Mother Teresa of Haiti and save them from themselves, and started the Rennwish charity. I noticed one odd thing about that though -- the Rennwish Headquarters is located in Naples, FL. But he lives in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. I google the address and see that it is a Beachfront condo. Pretty nice. But why would a guy living in Portsmouth, New Hampshire declare a beachfront condo in Naples, FL as the headquarters for his personal charity? Unless he wanted to expense the cost of the "headquarters" from the donations to the charity. So next I find a copy of his IRS Form 990 filed November 15, 2010. Go here to see it yourself: http://irs990.charityblossom.org/990EZ/200912/208511588.pdf (isn't FOIA wonderful?) For 2009, it takes in $26,976, and has $7,163 in assets ($34,139 total). Of which $17,215 helps Haiti, $580 is spent on "Professional fees and other payments to independent contractors", and what's this? --> $12,215 is spent on "Occupancy, rent, utilities, and maintenance". $3,676 is left. So it looks to me like Rennwish is paying for his wintertime beachfront condo in Naples (how opposite of Haiti can that possibly be?). If that's not the case, I'd love to hear his explanation. Certainly it doesn't appear that 100% of every dollar is going to Haiti as he says it does. Maybe he's not Mother Teresa, more like P.T. Barnum. ;) |
Didn't John sell RL a few years ago? IIRC, NH has no sales tax, but FL has no income tax. Seems to me, in his situation, NH would be the place to live day to day and FL would be the place to declare your income.

Lighten up guys! Having a boxster or a 996 is necessary but not sufficient to be a RL dork.
IMHO there were plenty of 993 dorks on RL as well. May I remind you of the "cars + watches" thread on there? That was the pinnacle of douchebaggery! (Anyone have a link? I think it was partially reposted for future reference here on PP). G |
I still maintain that their 993 tech board is excellent. There's a wine and cheese element to every car crowd. But there are some serious gearheads and track rats on there. I've had plenty of them PM me and ask for help or come over and wrench with me. One of them lives five miles from me in AZ and is a former factory Porsche wrench. I like having those guys as friends.

Agreed, Rick. I'd like to get the 993 tech traffic over here. I believe this board being based on parts sale has a different crowd - usually DIYers that come here for parts first and then the board.

Was it worse than the watches threads on pellerkin?

I think the combo of cars & watches was pretty good. I don't know of such a thread on PP. do we have it?
