Why the hell would someone want to mess with a website/community like rennlist?

Vandit 09-26-2012 06:14 PM

They don't usually target sites based on what they represent/contain but based on being able to identify and exploit a vulnerability in the site. It's basically an opportunistic hack.

The hack page posted above isn't showing up anymore, now it's an Internet Brands Maintenance splash page.

Hopefully they'll bring it back soon and hopefully the user credentials were appropriately encrypted and hopefully no one uses the same sign-on credentials on rennlist as they do on other more important online accounts.

It did not look like much of a hack

In fact if it was a real hack you would not even know it, they would just use the latest exploits to take over your computer when you visit.

Nice that he left his FB address though... Confident. :)

Somewhere in the world, an owner of a Black Audi Wagon is laughing wickedly!

Please pardon our dust...

We sincerely apologize for the inconvinience that our maintenance has caused.

Rest assured that we have our hard-at-work engineers actively remedying the issue.

Internet Brands looks forward to bringing this site back to you as quickly as possible.

We appreciate your understanding.

This is the best they can do?

People still use Rennlist? Huh.

aigel 09-26-2012 09:58 PM

I have never been a big fan of RL and haven't posted there in half a decade. Even getting a 993 didn't bring me back there:

Please visit Pelican for your 993 content.

(I hate it when folks on the 993 board here immediately refer new posters' questions to Rennlist - without even trying to answer! WTF?)

juanbenae 09-27-2012 06:40 AM

widebody911 09-27-2012 06:59 AM

Rennlist was compromised years ago by dorks with boxsters and 996's

dennis in se pa 09-27-2012 07:12 AM

I forgot rennlist even existed.

Sirlapsalot 09-27-2012 01:58 PM

Damn you guys are rough! I found Rennlist before here so I have always used it more. But honestly I find more information and activity there than here.... I'm a 944 guy though maybe the other model specific areas are different.
