Car body styles that were ripped off other better cars...

Was this trying to emulate a 911?

1978 Buick Century

Any others?

I'm pretty sure the Century is just more GM inbreeding:

One word- Hyundai

They copy everyone. Hard to tell them from the real deal sometimes, at certain angles, on their top end cars

Starting in the early 70's, Detroit produced some of the ugliest, shoddiest cars ever produced... IMHO anyway.

No need to be humble in you opinion friend. Most Detroiters would agree.

This is about the time, according to Bob Lutz's book "Car Guys vs Bean Counters", that GM management was taken over by accountants that kept putting the brakes on the design studios. Design became one relatively unimportant link in the chain of producing cars.

Everything in the 70s, sucked. The US EPA mandated bolt on pollution controls fried every motor due to excess heat....Disco screwed up all designs......

on the first post first pic the square fastback look
goes to vw in the 60's type 3 and 4's
but GM had fast backs in the late 40's but rounder over all

the second pic with the double angle is a late 40's RR look [ muleliner? sp?] from a custom builder

I believe the AMC Pacer pre-dated the 928 and Lapine said it was a design influence. The curved rear glass and wide B pillar were interesting styling choices but Lapine executed much better.

Ferdinand Porsche really liked this design. 1932 Chrysler Air flow design by LeBaron.

Trend setter '84 Audi 5000. Ford followed with the Taurus and GM with rounded off slabbed sided Buick's, Impala, etc.

Porsche copied the 360 front with the 918. Here's a pic of a 918 here in Malibu:

The Miata...Mazda copied pretty much everything on that car.

Between that and the FC, one can come to the conclusion that they didn't hire very creative people back in the day.
