Does it violate the terms of use to have multiple user names?

Just wondering, not shooting for 40,000 posts or anything. Seems pretty sketchy to me, but not sure if it is breakin' the law, as Judas Priest might say.

vash 10-03-2012 12:31 PM

i tried.

i tried to create "roof-girl" so i could mess with lubey. i couldnt do it..it got much to complicated. i couldnt keep email accounts, passwords, etc all straight.

:D..kudos to the one that can!

saxen 10-03-2012 12:31 PM

Why would you?

craigster59 10-03-2012 12:32 PM

It would make it seem ineffective to send someone to "Ban Island". They'd just continue to post under their alias(es).

Zeke 10-03-2012 12:35 PM

In the rules sticky:
"5. Do not impersonate other people or use fake aliases. Only one userid per person allowed."

Most forums have the ability to not only ban a user, but their IP address and if needed all users coming from that IP address range.

genrex 10-03-2012 12:39 PM

I don't see a problem with it, but that's just my opinion. For us long-time posters, it's pretty obvious who a new handle is within a few posts, even when they try to disguise themselves. And Randy for instance is totally open about it because he uses his initials, so no harm there, lol.

As many of us start to get up in years, and start to forget our password or even our *real* friggin name, this is going to happen more often. Gogar will always be our favorite Monsterhead, though.

Zeke 10-03-2012 12:55 PM

I had posts under 2 names. I PM'd Wayne that I wanted to register under another name and start over. His response was to delete the previous account and migrate all my posts over to the new account. After a year or so, I PM'd Wayne again and told him I might as well be Zeke, as I was before. So, in a nutshell, if I had to guess, I'd say Wayne does not approve of having more than one account even if there is only one active.

During a hiatus I took sometime ago for some 6 months, I PM'd again for permission and did some other activities under another name. I never posted. I PM'd Wayne again and explained that as well. He didn't seem to mind. But, I logged out of that user name and never went back.

The only reason I did that in the first place was because some members I needed to reach did not have email enabled. I had some dealings under way that needed completion. In short, it's best to not mess with the rules. Anyone that wishes to have their user name changed for any reason at all need only to ask the Admin. I've seen 100's of name changes.

scottmandue 10-03-2012 12:59 PM

Anyone remember mul? He got banned and came back at least once (maybe twice)... but that was a few years ago... I'm pretty sure the form software has been improved since to prevent such shenanigans.

gtc 10-03-2012 01:05 PM

Player is still around.... ask him.

tobra is trolling and - once again - trying to attack someone

I am not aware of anyone who has multiple accounts in operation at the same time.

bivenator 10-03-2012 01:44 PM

Why would somebody have multiple accounts?

Ask the poster rw1. It may have some insight.

stomachmonkey 10-03-2012 02:01 PM

Took me 10 years to change the text under my screen name.

Maybe in another 10 I'll change my avatar.

genrex 10-03-2012 02:34 PM

Oh my gosh, Wayne's a____r is twice as big as everyone else's.

Or cyber stalking?

Who cares about a new user name? Most hide behind them anyways.

sammyg2 10-03-2012 03:49 PM

I have two log-in IDs, I "think" the old one is still active. Not sure.

I created the sammyg2 log-in about a dozen years ago or so when I bought a 911 but if I'm not mistaken it was OK to do then.

I don't use the old log-in ID. It's just part of the archive.
As far as I'm concerned it can be deleted or just ignored.

Zeke 10-03-2012 03:57 PM

Goodbye rw1. I think that answers the thread question.

Man, he got annoyed with me. I didn't "attack" anyone. I happened onto a fact. If mentioning that fact twisted his nips, well sorry for the intrusion on his "private" life.

So when this guy with a screen name of "farmer" from Bakersfield is an idiot, you can become "framer", tick him off and he goes away. I seen it happen......Just sayin'

Z-man 10-03-2012 07:34 PM

A more imporant quesiton is this: Does it violate the terms of use to have multiple personalities?

Part of me wants to say no, but something inside me disagrees with that sentiment...

Joeaksa 10-04-2012 06:02 AM

It can be done if you know what you are doing...

Why yes, I am ya jerk!

If you ever call me a punk again, my reply will not be so kind. And I am not kidding one bit here.

Yes it could. When a moderator calls a member a slang word for a prostitute, it could very well get interesting.

He was quoting Clint Eastwood. I really don't think it was directed AT you. Don't take it so personally.

Zeke 10-04-2012 08:36 AM

Calm down. It says right there in the definition that prostitute is archaic. Combined with the "feeling lucky" part, it's pure Eastwood. Like saying, "Go ahead, make my day."

Which is probably what he should have used for an expression.

So my post being quoted in his post means that its not directed at me? Boy, you must be a lawyer.

I worked for a while in a prison, not a nice place. The word "punk" is not tossed around there lightly because the "punks" bend over for the population. Its not a nice word to toss in someone's direction...

Zeke 10-04-2012 08:48 AM

There you go calling someone a "Boy." ;) :D

andyt11 10-04-2012 08:58 AM

Do you really think Z-Man has nothing better to do than insult you Joe?! Calm down. Wow life is exciting.

sammyg2 10-04-2012 09:00 AM

Joe, I was really surprised at how you reacted to that post.

while it may not have been very smooth I'm pretty sure Z didn't mean anything derogitory or insulting at all.
It was simply a dirty harry quote he used to indicate that if someone tried to break the rules and got caught they'd get punished, and then he basically asked if you think you'd get away with it or do you think it would be worth the risk.

Joeaksa 10-04-2012 09:15 AM

Its really laughable how you guys try to "poo-poo" it as if its nothing when if something like this happened in your direction, especially you Sammy, you would have an immediate response as I did.

You see, the z man and I have some history and he has in the past removed or censored posts that I have done, while leaving the same sort of thing posted by other members in place. Even got to the point after happening numerous times where I finally fired an email up to the "head shed" and was told that after looking things over they agreed and that they would try to get him to treat me fairly in the future. It seems that someone forgot to tell him...

vash 10-04-2012 09:24 AM

i thought a "punk" was that incense stick used to light fireworks..

which is ironic, because this thread is like a lit keg of fireworks :D

punk
1    [puhngk] Show IPA
noun
1.
any prepared substance, usually in stick form, that will smolder and can be used to light fireworks, fuses, etc.
2.
dry, decayed wood that can be used as tinder.
3.
conk3 .
4.
a spongy substance derived from fungi; amadou; touchwood

#4 isnt so good..i dont know about "touch-wood" :D

You're right, me too. Still, it was a bad choice of words. If it had been just a little more direct, I could see your point entirely.

Oh come on Joe, I caught the Dirty Harry reference right off. I'm sure Z-man was alluding to this quote:

Harry Callahan: I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Good lord, Joe, I thought you were going to come back with some humor; you did, after all, state that you could manage to beat the system, knew how to log in with multiple whatevers.

Z used a movie quote.

This is a web forum, Joe...holding an electronic grudge doesn't become you.

dennis in se pa 10-04-2012 10:03 AM

Why would someone need an alternate logon unless for deceptive purposes?

pwd72s 10-04-2012 10:09 AM

In order to hijack away from the nastiness

I'll change the topic to how great a Bullitt Mustang is...much better suited to today's driving than my old 911S ever was... Faster, more comfortable, and easier to drive.

Sidney has a secret desire for one...
