Restaurant protocol question
We had dinner at dinner at a local place last night with another couple. After dinner, we got a complimentary glass of port along with a small plate of dark chocolate - basically some sort of chocolate bar broken into squares.
The strange thing was after a little while (10 minutes), the waiter came by and asked if we were finished; the wine was gone. We said "sure" so he took the remaining chocolate and served it at another table with their glasses of port. I thought that was weird. Thoughts? |
probably a health code violation if you had the plate sitting on your table where you could touch it
|
Not good.
|
Wow, that's very creepy, and almost certainly a no-no.
|
Tell the owner.
Great PR that is turning into a disaster and he might no be aware of it. |
Was this a health food, hippie-type, place? Those folks tend to be cheapo cheapo and earthy.
. Ha!...and liberal. |
Well, I'm not going there.
|
This was an Italian place that appears to be trying to move upscale a notch or two.

Once it hits the table, its get eaten or trashed. |
Teethmarks on the bread? Some of it pre-buttered too?

Could you maybe PM me the name of that place so I don't go eat there, ever
|
Pretty gross.
KT |
Really makes you wonder where the chocolate was before it was on your table.
I would not go there ever again... |
Certainly weird... I wouldn't go there again.
|
I eat out a lot, and probably get sick to my stomach 1/3 of the time. This results in a few painful minutes on the loo within an hour or two of eating. I NEVER get sick from food I prepare at home. Does this happen to anyone else?
|
Are you finished with your lobster bisque? The table next to you hasn't had any. Also, are you using that soup spoon anymore?
How about your cloth napkins? Did you need your own coat back tonight? Seriously, this could be a Seinfeld episode. |
possibly they have a clean & sanitary kitchen and this was just an oversight
while I'd not test that myself, if you like them then a word to the owner would be helpful if you hate them, or think they are a danger to the public then contact health dept. |

I eat out all the time. I can't remember a stomach issues except getting too full. Maybe it is from all my bachelor years eating leftovers that were just 7 day old. |
I have always said: "Don't go out to eat unless you are comfortable with each staff member placing their fingers directly in your mouth".
Now, this includes everyone in the building... Believe me, there is nowhere near the appropriate amount of hand washing going on behind the scenes. KT |

I don't harbor any ill will towards them, and I actually liked the food. This could have been FNG oversight.
|
Good concept. Bad implementation.
A diner could have licked it with their Sars/Aids/etc mouths, and put it back on the plate. It's been done before. Or Diners could have added a couple drops of liquid acid...as a funny joke.... It's a chain of command thing. Distributor->Restaurant-> Diner. When something goes wrong, there's a trail. |
Unless the item is packaged you can't reuse it in VA.

I'm not going to stop dining out, or live my life in a bubble. |
Heck, I've broken apart a Hersery bar many times and passed it around. No problem. ######## This was meant to be a funny, a joke, get it. Maybe not. Oh well.

Or anything with a spoon in it that goes table to table. I think they stopped doing that with jams and jellies. But finger foods? No freakin' way! |
You could sit at a table in the dining room with binoculars, dressed as a waiter.
As soon as you spot someone finishing up with food still on their plate, make your move. Free meal every night... KT |

I most likely cook everything I eat. |

Yes, this. ...and if the owner gives you grief, call the health dept anyway. Gross! |
I've sent them an email outlining my concern; we'll see how they react.
|
You may hear nothing.
I went to Ella down on K St, got some partially raw chicken and some seafood that was off, smelled bad. Said something to the server, who did not do much. I would have been falling all over myself if that happened to me when I was waiting tables. Wrote a letter addressed to the chef, heard nothing back, and I have not been back. If we do one of our local podiatry association meetings there, I will stop off at McDonald's on the way there. |
widebody 911.
Why did you not say anything while it happened? |
