Vegetable garden 2012 - who's in?

Time for me to get started. Winter is a bust here. The past two seasons, I really wanted to get an early starting some seedlings inside and then get them into the ground as soon as there is enough light on my plot and the weather warms up. Well, Winter was a bust here and the weather is not too cold for veggies, so I am pretty much all set up and ready to go.

I went by the local nursery and was surprised, though not really because of the weather, a lot of veggie seedlings. They all looked in good shape, so I picked a few things up to help get the season started. I also planted some cucumber seeds and I am germinating some butterhead lettuce seed. I'll keep both indoors until they are big enough to go in the ground, which should be right about when enough sunlight will be on my plot. I will also be starting some cantaloupe and squash in the next few days as well.

In this mix, tarragon, spinach, onions, cauliflower, trout speckled romaine lettuce, purple broccoli, Italian parsley, and cilantro.

The plot, ready to go. Soil has been amended with new soil, worm castings and organic fertilizer. I would really like to see some big veggies this year. There are some strawberries, garlic, and garlic chives still going from the past seasons in the foreground and lemon grass is back left.

I've been wearing shorts and tees almost all Winter down here. No frost and the grounds temps are a bit under ideal, so I am going to try and get an early jump on the season.

I think I may grow a few of the things above in containers in the beginning. That way I can keep them in as much sun as possible for now.

pretty soon, but not yet. fortunately I did most of my prep for the garden pre MVA. I am worried about the peach tree that is in full bloom. It seems to be holding up to the wind and cold though. Not too cold to put the top down today.

I'm going to try some tomatoes again a little later, as it gets warmer. I didn't see any at the nursery, so I take it they are not going to fair well now.

I am working on my flower bed for trees and fruits. I planted tomato in the pots last month and already got some baby trees.

It's 24 degrees out, so I'm not getting started yet. I'll start some herbs about March 1st so they'll be ready to set out in early May. Last frost free day here is May 15, so it doesn't do to get too early of a start. I'll to tomatoes, herbs, beets, potatoes, onions, and I'm going to go big on strawberries. They were $5.00 a quart here last year in high season!

Its a bit early here to think of gardening, but we start in a few weeks with seeds inside, then they go out to the greenhouse, and next into the ground in May. We do a small plot about 40'x40' and freeze as much as we can to last thru the winter. Just ran out of peppers this week, so we'll have to do more this year!

Onions are in the ground as well as snow peas. I'll be planting more veggies in March.

Me too, but I think I'll narrow it down a little. My neighbor and I decided yesterday we were both going to grow a grove of Anaheim chilies. I might plant the rest of a green chili recipe.

Looks like it is an early and wet spring here. I will be doing my first one this year.

I'll be in my new home in a couple of weeks. I have a ravine that I will plan on planting as soon as I move in.

May not happen this year . Go in for surgery next Monday and will be off work for about 3 months.

Unless I buy a Mantis the wife won't/can't run a tiller. Might be too late to plant before I'm able
