Some folks say that about Porsche.

I converted from the PC and can attest that you have no idea what you are talking about. The time spent on viruses and other PC related crap are well worth the additional cost. There is an old saying, you get what you pay for.

On a Mac you can recover the airport password from your keychain. Easy peasy.

I built my own PC desktop. Mine is built for photo editing - I have a very high end graphics card and monitor that is best suited for the application. I keep my case, fans, keyboard and mouse. I do like the ipad but it isn't for me. The decision for me is: what do you want your computer to do?

Googar - I do not know why you continually misrepresent things - the idea is to try and help Byron make a decision. I think island may be partly right about the "fanboy" effect for mac users, but I hope this thread will be specific and not degenerate into 2 camps with name-calling. I would like someone to tell me the adv.s of OSX over Win 7 as I don't see it.

jyl - the USB hubs are limited to lower speeds - USB 3.0 will not work on the macs; in addition the macinista would be offended by all the unsightly cords all over the desktop...

I agree re some PCs (and components) being "real junk" - two machines failed on me in short order, causing me to migrate to the mac (along with the idea that I would get a mac airy type laptop for summer travel/camping use)

also, it isn't really an issue of effing with the Registry being easier on Win 7 vs. macs - it is the attempt to isolate the intermediate user from the file system -- if you like to use subdirs as an organizational aid, the mac makes it harder (at least seemingly so)

Byron - jcommins put the central question really well - what do you need to do on the computer?

also see jyl's lap tops thread if you use them much - I think no one can catch Apple on that front

This is a nice place to hang out Paul. Don't piss in the well. And if you do, remember that you were the one who started it when you slink off with your tail between your legs.

Seriously, it always starts with a little joke. We've been here before.

BTW, I just blew up my computer, and went with a used PC that had never been hooked up to the internet. It was much easier to get going that way. After three days, I just wanted to be up and running.

I was kidding! I forgot you don't really play that way.
