I feel so much safer today.......

Now that Homeland Security in doing it's job arresting cheeze smugglers.

Global Toronto | Police officer, two others arrested in cheese smuggling ring

TORONTO – A cross-border police effort that began in January has netted several suspects – including a police officer - as part of a criminal cheese-smuggling ring.

On Thursday, three men were arrested and charged “in regard to a large-scale smuggling scheme to distribute cheese products and other food items into Canada,” according to a press release from the Niagara Regional Police Service.

A Constables with the Niagara Police Service 39-year-old Scott Heron, a former police officer 48-year-old Casey Langelaan, and 44-year-old Bernie Pollino have all been charged in relation to the cheese-smuggling.

Police allege that upwards of $200,000 in illegal cheese and other food products were smuggled into Canada.

In January, the Niagara Police Service, along with the Department of Homeland Security, the Border Enforsement Security Task Force (BEST), and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) launched the investigation into the alleged smuggling and distribution of cheese into Canada from the United States.

Police allege the network of cheese smugglers would purchase cheese in the U.S. and bring them into Canada without declaring them or paying duty at the border.

The illegal cheese would then be sold and distributed to a number of southern Ontario restaurants for an estimated profit of $165,000, according to Niagara police.

That cheese had a street value of 200 large. But if you step on it a couple of times you could make it worth maybe 500k! Just cut the Camembert with some cheap mozzarella. How is a Canadian gonna know the difference? Just don't sell it in Quebec.

Don't go there, man. Raw milk cheese has killed two people from 1998 to 2009! It's a friggin' epidemic! Don't trust me, trust the CDC!

Yeah, and you get to manage armed response teams in the event of an imminent raw milk incursion!

Because of the milk quota

Canadian Dairy Information Centre (CDIC) - Dairy Facts and Figures

cheese can be 3X what it costs in the USA. Example a 8 oz bag of shredded pizza cheese is almost $9 here, I can buy the same size bag for about $2.50 in North Dakota.

4 different agencies in 2 countries worked for 9 months to arrest 3 men over $165,000 profit.

I really want to know how many man hours were spent on this. Was there overtime involved? Stakeouts? Wiretaps? Did an agent risk his life going undercover and infiltrating this criminal enterprise?

People need to learn to ask themselves: Is the juice worth the squeeze?

Something stinks about this whole thing. I wonder if the French were involved.
