Another One For The Doctors: Quadracep Contusion?

A week ago Saturday (10/13), I took a fall on the sidewalk and landed directly on the front of my thigh...all 200+ lbs, pounded into my quadricep. Felt like the worst charlie-horse I'd ever had. I tried doing stretching exercises but nothing would relieve the knotted muscle. I think more out of laziness, than anything else, I applied neither heating pad or an ice pack to it right away.

After a week of feeling this knotted cramped muscle that wouldn't subside, this past Saturday evening (10/20), I finally relented and sat in front of the TV and wrapped my thigh in ice for about 30 minutes. After the movie I was watching ended, I went to bed.

When I awoke the following morning, I was surprised to see some pretty nasty bruising on the inside of the same thigh...not on top, where the knotted muscle was, but on the of my thigh. Since then, it actually seems to have gotten somewhat worse.

Googling a bit, I found some information on Quad Contusions, and came across the following image, which appears to be exactly what I did:

Here's a shot from Sunday morning

And a shot from earlier this evening

Is this something I should get into a doctor to see about, or something that should work itself out. The bruised areas are somewhat painful, and there are is some pain a few inches above my knee, on both sides (inside and outside)

Google also mentioned Myositis Ossificans which doesn't sound very pleasant at all. Something to be concerned with?

Randy
