Small light weight video camera for bicycle use?

Dunno if anyone has posted this, but in the last couple of days I've had more than a few cars pass me on the left, slow and then turn right in front of me. Most don't even bother to signal.

What's a good small, light weight, 6 hour duration, video camera that can be mounted on the handle bar or helmet. Prefer one that records to an SD card and uses a bullet style optic.

It obviously won't protect me but will lead the PD to the morons that took me out....

you have a Sports Basement store where you are at? they sell both the Contour and the GoPro. i need to buy one..

GoPro is easily the more popular one. Contour, from what i read, you can use the Iphone as a preview device. super cool feature. that guy uses a Contour on that Dirty Jobs show.

there is one corner where i get the crosslight...i take off on my bike and cars just keep coming. i have to typically stop. half the of the drivers blissfully take the right turn and drive off..they NEVER see me. amazing.

How might one waterproof that Hobby King cam? Doesn't look like it would survive a rainy ride mounted on a helmet or bike.

Documenting traffic seems reasonable, but won't make you safer. Perhaps it is distracting. A GoPro does record for a while. Mine is limited by the battery to about 2 hours on typical settings. So it is not set and forget for 6 hours which would be best.

Local fatality. Video would have been horrible.

Coroner IDs man killed in weekend bike accident in Shasta County » Redding Record Searchlight

Earlier reports described his partner being dragged 70 feet by the Jeep Laredo that killed him. I would NOT be riding a recumbent AND three wheel (wide) bike on these shoulderless highways. He was a college math and science teacher.

Below is a streetview shot from the very general area that the accident occurred.

Go ahead a get a Go-Pro, you can get mounts for the bike, and the Cab for track days or just fun street driving & you can use it surfing.
BTW, my Sister is checking to see if she still has any contacts.

Are there safer routes that you guys could take? Routes that are mostly side-streets or bike paths? It would probably take longer, but it seems to be too risky taking these particular streets and arterials.

At the Delmar gunshow put on by Crossroads of the West there is a guy from China that sells several such as glasses cam, pen cam and one small enough for an RC helicopter. He has several really cute girls with very short skirts helping so his table is always busy!!!! Anyways check to see if there is a Crossroads show up in OC or somewhere close by and check them out.

I bought a Muvi cam on Amazon for $49 last year and used it for skiing after buying a waterproof case.

Bicycling is multiple times safer than motorcycling. It is not that different from being a pedestrian, as far as death rates go.

You have to ride defensively. After a while you learn to anticipate the things drivers do, because they do the same things all the time. Turning right, and cutting off a cyclist going the same direction, is called a right hook. As a rider, you know when a car is in front of you, you need to expect it to swerve into the intersection or driveway. Just like a motorcyclist knows to expect an oncoming car to turn left in front of him.

When a car blindsides you from behind - that's just bad luck. I watch my helmet mirror all the time, to have a chance of seeing that car coming. But at some point you have to rely on the probabilities.

When you get your cam, please post details, review, etc. I've been thinking about getting one myself. The Contour looks pretty good. The GoPro looks way too bulky to mount on a helmet. The Drift looks interesting, remote on/off and LCD screen. Oh, I just found the Tachyon Micro HD, 4.5 stars on Amazon, and lots cheaper than the others.
