I love the idea of getting a life-long keeper of a bag, but don't understand buying something so heavy. It completely defeats the purpose of travel luggage. Does anyone make a lambskin or similar bag? Something lightweight yet leather-type durable?

This is the one I want... A satchel for my Rangfinder cameras.

You could easily pay double the amount for a bag from England or Europe.

Not that there's anything wrong with that ;)

Especially with a Leica in it. :)

Here's what mine looks like after several thousand miles and about 5 years of abuse. Although the leather looks a lot drier here than it actually is.

I've had my saddleback bag for 6 yrs and it keeps getting better. Just got a belt today, should last longer than I'll need a belt....

Backpacks & Bags - School & Campus :: Duluth Pack :: Made in the USA :: Quality leather and canvas luggage, backpacks, camping, and outdoor gear,

I have Been happy with a leather bag from here. Was in the store in Duluth., mn ended up buying a used one in st Paul a couple of months later. Looked at the saddleback bags on line - was not willing to spend the money for the limited use I would give it.

Did Saddleback finally make their camera bag? They came around to a site I'm a regular at to ask for input on one a couple years back. Everybody was listing all these pro-friendly features. I told them to forget everything everybody else was saying and go after the Leica guys instead, who are way, way more likely to buy a $500 leather camera bag than those of us throwing pro-body DSLRs and 2.8 zooms around. Maybe they actually listened.

If anybody wants a bag for a bigger DSLR-type setup, by the way, there is no brand better than Think Tank. The best made, best thought-out bags around, designed by real full-time photojournalists and made out of excellent materials.

If you guys want high quality leather luggage, try Hartmann Luggage.

One piece that I have is over 30 years old and most a good 20 years old. Yes they show the wear and tear but still look excellent.

Love those bags and especially the satchel. Another company that makes really nice leather goods that are a bit more urban is Hardgraft.

hard graft / Über Premium Leather and 100% Wool Felt. Authentically European.

This is my EDC bag from Orvis. It makes me happy.

J.W. Hulme Co. | Leather Handbags, Luggage, Briefcases & iPad Covers

Been carrying one of their breifcases for 21 years. Handles started to look warn after 19 years. They replaced them free. They used ot make the orvis bags before they offshored theirs.

I wish I lived the kind of life where such a bag was appropriate. Nice leatherwork is amazing but it's not the kinda thing that I have a use for.
