What charities do you financially support?
This could be a very short or long thread. I work solely with non-profits and gov't. agencies, so I'm pretty in tune with the goals and programs of a lot of these do-gooder orgs. And I get to personally visit their officew and see how they spend money. I visited a start-up foundation the other day that plans to give away $800 million in grants over the next 10 yrs. Obviously, they're not getting this from individual donors. Currently, I only support my prep school and the NRA. But I'm leaning hard toward starting a monthly gift to Wounded Warrior Project. Any other suggestions?

Terry Fox, its a Canadian thing for cancer research and a heck of a story, He called his run accross Canada the "Marathon of Hope" and ran his 26 miles everyday rain, snow or shine, Terry was a 1 legged runner having lost the other to cancer. He wanted $1.00 from every Canadian, about 28 million at the time, last I heard the foundation had 500 mil in the bank, they only spend the interest on the money so the legacy of Terry Fox and his dream of a cure for cancer would never be lost.

I do a bunch, plus my wife gives to the Catholic Church.
To be frank, volunteering my time is more rewarding. When I retire/retire, I plan on working for a non-profit...I have started developing a list. There are some really fine people doing amazing work. |
I had forgotten about Fisher House. They always had commercials on the radio station I listened to in DC. That's another good one.

As for money, I give to USC Good Neighbor Campaign. Zero overhead, as USC covers the admin costs for the project. |
