Shoplifer busted at the grocery store tonight.

Got to see some action tonight. We were headed out to dinner, and to do our weekly, and pre storm grocery shopping. She wanted to go to Wal Mart. I hate the place, and I was picturing 6 gazillion people , long lines, and chaos. I wanted to go to Friedmans . It is an older, smaller store , kind feels like you stepped back in time 15-20 years or so, and it is never crowded. She agreed.
I was in the freezer aisle with my kid grabbing up waffles, and I saw a shaggy looking guy picking up a few frozen pizza's. I did not see it happen, but I guess, that after he left the aisle, he made a break for the door with the Pizza's under his shirt. I heard all the commotion, and peeked around the corner, and the bag boy, and whom I assume was the store manager, had already taken him down. They must have dishragged him pretty good, they had his hoodie pulled up over his head, had him in a headlock, and the guy was screaming " I can't breathe man" . " I think I broke my wrist" . All the while, his freaky girlfriend was crying, and making a scene at the counter.
The store employees did a great job, they stopped him from leaving the store and dragged him off into the office , and managed to detain him , until the police arrived.
So my kid got to see the bad guy go out in handcuffs while we paid for our groceries. A great night out in my book. Always nice to see the good guys win one.

I worked in a grocery store for 3 yrs through high school, I was known as deputy dog cause I would focus lots of my time catching the local kids and random older people stealing things.
I was not allowed to touch anyone though I was instructed to block the door so they could not leave

It was lots of fun and an adrenalin rush

3 days ago I was at the big W.
I am walking the aisle with a cart.
I am behind an older couple about 20 feet.
I see that the 'woman' opens up a container of juice and she says to her beau. "If we like this we'll buy a carton"
She takes a huge chugg out of the fruity juicy and says to the male-"you try it"
He swills some down and then says-"no. Tastes like rcap.
They proceed to put it back on the shelf and walk on.

I grab the juice and threw it into their buggy .
I give them a mouth full and also remind them of their age and more decent times they've lived and what the hell happened to them.
They oggled me and said nothing.
FAKIN GROSS!! and so sad how the elders have lost the manners they've learnt and gone easy street ghetto.
This will be a Thread for me at another time.

Good that they stopped someone from stealing, but it's also a little sad when someone is stealing food.

A buddy and his family have a grocery store. Lots of stories. They have cameras all over the place. Last week some clown broke the ends off a bunch of asparagus and then tried to deny the ends were his at the checkout. As they were weighing the asparagus my buddy walked up and dropped the ends on the scale.

They have one old guy who come in a shoplifts all the time. The guy is loaded. They have a deal with the guys family. They come in and pay for what he has taken.

It's not actually a crime until he exits the store so I'm not sure they had a case.

That was going to be my point. The best approach is to stop them at the door and "remind them" to pay for the items under their coat.

Sad. On a couple of levels.
If they broke his wrist, HE definitely has a case.

I'm walking throught the parking lot at the local Safeway and I see this guy carrying a duffel bag and sprinting out of the store , he was being followed by a fat security lady who was yelling at him. As he gets closer to me he drops the bag, it was full of beef, steaks and roasts, so he could run faster, he went to run past me and cars parked in the lot and I pushed him, it sorta knocked me off balance but I changed his direction and he ran full speed into the side of a mini van and dropped like he'd been shot, I considered it as "1 for the good guys". When I came outta the store there was 2 cop cars there and they were loading this loser into the ambulance. This was 25 years ago but I'd bet that guy still feels the effects of hitting that van. I hate thieves.

I do have some sympathy for a person stealing food. I try to keep myself from having the popular fundamental attribution bias. I have no sympathy, however, when a person is stealing frivolous things, such as jewelry, clothes, etc...

Sad when they are stealing food and have the money to pay for it...

Stealing potatoes is one thing. Stealing steak is way different. If he was really stealing to eat there are better ways to get food. Stealing a frozen pizza is unacceptable.

If one has to stoop so low as to steal food, be it meat or potato's; they must be absolutely desperate.

Hunger. The addiction that can't be helped.

I do take pity on SOME that have lost so much as to be in this situation to do this.

Perhaps the frozen pizza was positioned just right-he thought- so no-one would see him.
