Anybody ever repair the foam when installing new seat covers in your car?

Anybody ever repair the foam when installing new seat covers in your car?

On my 2001 Ford F150, the driver side seat has a worn spot through the leather and into the foam, creating a hole 3"-4" wide by 5"-6" and 2" deep. New foam is not available from Ford, so I'm looking to repair it. My only thought is to cut out and build it back up with new foam, using 3M spray adhesive.

Thoughts?

We have an upholstery shop near us and they replaced the foam in my Porsche seats several years ago. Spray foam will make a huge mess and will not work well at all (don't ask me how I know this)...

It's out there. They rebuilt the foam on my Silverado bench seat. No big deal

In my old BMW 2002. I replaced the foam in the seat bottoms myself. I found a shop in NYC Chinatown that sold high density foam. Not a big deal to do. I didn't use any adhesive as the covers held the foam in place tightly.

That is exactly what you do...use a turkey knife to shape the replacement piece and be sure to use a good amount of the spray glue on both pieces..if you get a rough size of your repair piece I could probably send you a piece of foam..hope this helps..

Same here - I had my 944 seats redone a few years ago and the upholstery shop put in new foam and made the seats a bit stiffer/harder than stock which will also help them last. Modern foams/pads hold up a lot longer. They're very nice to sit in.

That's where I got my seat from after watching the videos. Very helpful guys. They sent some foam, but I'd never done it before.

That's what I ended up doing, using my wife's electric turkey knife. I just need to clean it up tomorrow before she comes back in town.

You can see one spot on the left bolster I had to build up some. Not perfect, but much better. Now I need to replace the back, because the new bottom makes it look bad!
