I wanted a 911 since I was a kid. When I joined this forum, it had been a few years of "not far now" from getting one

Spent a number of years racing F1600 and F2000 in SCCA....

fastfredracing 11-01-2012 02:00 PM

Mine is just my first email address. Back in those days, I was an autocrosser, and the track bug had also just bitten me. My business name is Fast Freddy's Auto Service, and every combination of Fast Fred , FastFreddy, fastfreds auto , that I tried was taken, so I ended up with fastfredracing. I have thought about changing it, as I no longer track, or autocross, and it sort of sounds cheesy, but fark it, that is who I am.
I kind of did the same thing here. Every time I searched for Porsche parts, and stuff on the internet, it would lead me to pelican. I think I created an account to sell off a few parts cars, and never had any idea that I would end up spending so much time here, so did not put a whole lot of thought into a username.

Mine is dumb. I was in a hurry, and had no clue I would stick around so much! I was thinking about deleting my current name and starting a new one, but I am getting closer to 1000 posts.

Mine is a homage to the chief of the Clan MacArthur who was executed by James I of England in Stirling in 1427. Or not.

70SATMan 11-01-2012 03:11 PM

In my Navy days one of the more common ploys used against ET Communications newbies on board my ship was having to stand the "Satellite Watch". One is placed on the O10 level with a sound powered telephone, night torch, and Binocs. We were instructed to notify the SATCom transceiver room when the satellite was spotted and directly overhead so that the Whiskey-3 radios could be sync-locked....;):D:D

Of course this watch was always stood from O-Dark:30 to 0300. It was a classic snipe hunt and I knew ahead of time what they were doing but, hey it was a rite of passage. Towards the end of the watch they were quite surprised when I radio'd that I had spotted it. I started to give them a 30 second to mark countdown.:D

The Transceiver room was only two levels down and one of the guys in the shop hauled ass up thinking I had caught on to the game and was pulling their leg. Surprised that I had really spotted the reflection of a LEO streaking across the night sky, earned the nickname SATMan and that stuck for the rest of my service.

I've worked in the SAT Comm biz ever since and once I bought my 70S, I merged the two.

Can I interest anyone in a nitrogen filled garble filter for a teletype? I have a few NOS boxed. Never know when one of those are gonna fail and you have to scrounge the whole ship looking for a spare.:D:D;);)

I ride a motorcycle every day, and born in '52. Use the same name on all forums.
I remember Yellow Peril from early days in Norton News; my Roadster regretfully has been neglected for years.

Small world. I'm an Ass Man myself. SmileWavy

With the big-2 covered (100 men surveyed, top 10 answers on the board...), it will be interesting to see what other types of ??? man show up!

Note there are only a couple easy ones left till it becomes more foul than a drunken pirate in a Caribbean bar.

Rapewta 11-01-2012 04:50 PM

Back in the 70's... a band "J. Geils", I can't even remember the spelling. Anyway. we loved these guys and they had a great song about being in a bar and
a lady "repuntzel" Peter Wolf was singing about.
He called her "Rapewta the Beauta"
The song was great and if you listen to the lyrics... well it was a good tune.
I just thought Rapewta was a good username.
Rapewta... let down your hair... let me climb up the ladder of your love.
It is not true what they are saying about me down at the Wise Cracker Lounge.
I didn't even kiss her. Blah Blah Blah. It stuck.

pavulon 11-01-2012 05:07 PM

Used mine a lot when I could get it...now it seems to have gone obsolete likely due to low profit margin and perhaps because it was part 2 of 3 in execution cocktails. Still good stuff...too good.
