Sandy causes Fisker fires

Jalopnik.com Updates: More Than A Dozen Fisker Karma Hybrids Caught Fire And Exploded In New Jersey Port After Sandy

Yep, it looks like the electric cars went underwater, shorted out and caught fire.

this is funny:

"Really, they don’t know why Lithium Ion batteries caught fire when submerged in water? I’m pretty sure I remember from 10th grade high school chemistry that Lithium + Water = Fire, assuming the quantity of Lithium is great enough."

Don't Tread On Virginia, Jalopnik.com Updates: More Than A Dozen Fisker Karma Hybrids Caught Fire And Exploded In New Jersey Port After Sandy

i am guessing that that the lithium batteries are sealed and the lithium is not in elemental form, but what do i know. i do seem to recall that lithium batteries, if exposed to excessive heat/fire, will explode.

I'm thinking salt water = short circuit= overheat and melt the lithium batteries. Like most any battery with a dead short.

I think the correct term for a a lithium battery fire is "vent with flames". Kind of like how car fires at the GM Proving Ground here were referred to as "thermal incidents".

Seems like an insurance scam to me. Who is this "Sandy" character, and how much was she paid to make this look like an accident?

Somebody should be looking into Fisker's 4Q financial projections!

Wait, isn't lithium the stuff they give heroin addicts .... Or is that a question better suited for PARF?

methadone. but it doesn't burst into flames when submerged. although it will short out the opium receptors.

I went to school with a Sandy character. She also wreaked havoc wherever she went. She was one of my early ones.

Does that go for elemental methadone also?
