Earthquakes are the issue for me.
Bug-in like Paul said. A couple of rifles, shotguns and pistols. Several hundred rounds for each. 20,000 swimming pool. Enough other food and water to last several weeks. In the car, backpack with flashlight and extra batteries, granola bars, and a couple of water bottles, a poncho, a jacket, boots. I could walk home from work in a 5-6 hours (22 miles) if I had to. |
if a stupid baseball game turns law abiding citizens into torch wielding idiots..i imagine if an earthquake happens and the electricity shuts off for weeks..it will get ugly.
us living in densely populated areas, we better have a plan. driving to the wilderness to camp, isnt a plan. the highways would be crowded or collasped.. in Alaska on a homestead..i imagine life wouldnt change a bit.. it is all about the population density. |
Reading more in this thread, I have decided I will:
1. Make sure to keep my gas cans filled. I have two 5-gal cans, usually one is full, with both that is 10 gal, or 400+ miles range with the Prius. 2. Install a connection to the Prius for an inverter, to be able to power our freezer which will shortly contain enough cow to be an expensive loss. Like this: http://conservationreport.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/prius_as_back_up_power.pdf 3. Lay in a few more cartons of canned food, on the next Costco run. We've been on the healthy eating kick which has caused us to stop buying canned food. 4. Stash away some 2 gal water containers. I think of my 50 gal water heater as my main emergency water supply, though. 5. Pick up a few more propane bottles for the table top cookers (we use these for hot pot dinners). I always have an extra, full propane tank for the grill, which has a side burner. I think a full tank will drive that single burner for a month of meals. I think that is sufficient. Like Rick Lee, I don't live near an exposed coastline, nuclear reactor, sketchy neighborhood, large forest, etc. I guess the Willamette River is 1.5 miles away but I'm at least 200 feet above it. So my emergency plan will be to "shelter in place". Do I need more firepower? I have a 12 ga shotgun w/ several boxes of shells, a few pistols with a couple hundred rounds. |
I live on a hill , and i'm hoarding ammo and got solar and food.
If "ze Germans" wanna come visit again, i'll defend my hill even if it means going down in a blaze of Glory! |
You got dragon's teeth around the perimeter?

every car I own is outfitted for a week or 2 of camping at all times - simple

Am well prepared. No need to say anything more...

I live about 50 yards from the Pacific ocean so a tsunami would drown me in moments. But if it doesn't I'll take over a supermarket and decide who gets food. Being Wellington's third fastest gun I should be fine unless the other two guys turn up.

Seems like the answer is to have lots of firepower and visit the folks with Obama signs in their yard and take what you need. Aren't they all anti-gun?

Class A motorhome with 98 gals fuel, 40 gals water and 40 gals propane. It will take me about a hour to board up all the doors and windows on the house, empty the gun safe, fill the MH with food and fill the water tank. Chainsaws, gas & oil. 25 gals of gas in the garage. Only problem I'd have is deciding which way to head. :)

Good option. Am looking at that option right now as well.
If you get to the Arizona desert let us know. We will make room for you... |
Thanks for the offer. I'd like to have a beer with you one day. :)
|
Anytime! The place is full of Canadians for the next six months anyway! :)
|
But you will make it, what, 100 miles with that motorhome, but the tank runs dry? No power, no pumps at the gas station. No order, sniper takes you out while pumping. Big, attractive target.

Diesel motor home runs on almost anything. 100 miles gets you away from civilization then you forage around on your own.

You are not stupid enough to either vote for Kenya's village idiot, or have an Obuma sign in your front yard. You would be "with us" and not against us... |
