what type of beer is best with a squeeze of lime?

why do some beers come with a wedge of lime? i mean who decides? corona..sure.

but what about all the other beers?

Funny story I heard about the Corona with lime thing, is that at first the lime was used just to clean the mouth of the bottle. I do like the taste tho.

None that are worth drinking

If the beer is so bad you have to have a lime, then I don't want it.

A mexican bartender told me the lime and salt was originally used around the lip of the cans because the metal tasted so bad.

Good salt and lime do make a mexican beer taste better, imo. - Dos Equis, Tecate..

Mexican beer. I love Dos Equis Amber with a squirt of lime.

corona and limes go together, so much so that it doesn't taste right without the lime.
But then again, I didn't know what a proper beer was until I went to a pub here in London.

beer

As the story goes as told to me.

The use of the citrus was to clean the bottle and keep insects from the opening

I heard several reasons why there is lime and sometimes salt. Would be interesting to hear more.

I like corona with lime in summer. Otherwise I keep it with German lager and no citrus fruit needed.

I figured that if the water is so bad that you can't drink it, they must use the lime to make it taste better ;). I agree as noted above, if my beer needs a lime or a piece of fruit it is not worth drinking.

True...I do admit having a few too many Coronas on more than one occasion though.

The lime is to keep flies out.

1. Sanitize the mouth of the bottle

2. Yarrrr to keep ya from gettin' scurvy, matey.

Corona or Tecate with a lime is pretty bad and I love it.

NEVER put anything in a good beer..... Just enjoy it as it is!

craigster59 11-04-2012 05:29 PM

Negra Modelo. Remove lime from mouth of bottle,... drink.

scottmandue 11-05-2012 06:45 AM

I can't abide the taste of corona... Pacifica or Sol with lime, guilty... Dos Equis doesn't need it.

Now orange of lemon in my hefeweizen... that is a whole different story!

yazhound 11-05-2012 06:45 AM

achh.... sol/corona.... et al... mexican miller.... like making love in canoe... f##& close to water... hit on a good IPA and you will enjoy beer and forget about fruit.

id10t 11-05-2012 06:52 AM

A Blue Moon (a Belgian wheat beer) goes well with a slice of orange... lime is sorta OK with it, just not as good as a nice orange slice.

Then again, if your beer choice requires a garnish, I'd be worried.

good beer needs nothing-
bad beer can't be helped
cheap beer is enjoyed because it is cheap beer and nothing should be added to deter form the cheap beer experience-

in Portland if you put fruit in beer you could be refereed to as " one of those people "
