size of picture in post
What effects the size of a picture in any posts? On an infrequent basis I see pictures that are very big in some posts, how does this happen if the size of the file cannot be greater than 2 mg? Just curious.

This is strictly on PP. Most other sites have more complicated procedures and lower quality pictures posted.

This is a very large image reduced to 400 x 600 and from 2.3mb to 122k. ![]()

If you upload a picture to pelican for everyone to see, then pelican automatically reduces the size to be no wider than 800 pixels. If you find a picture on the internet that you want to post, and you post the link to the picture from where ever you found it on the 'Net inside the [ img ] [ /img ] tags, then pelican can't resize it.
The upside to uploading the picture to pelican is that it'll never be too big. The upside to NOT uploading the image to pelican is that Wayne doesn't have to buy as many hard drives to hold all of the random images, and we don't use Wayne's bandwidth when we pull up the page with the image because we are pulling it from someplace else on the 'Net. |

Maybe I'm not explaining it correctly. I know how to make pictures smaller but can they be made larger than the standard?
![]() this is 2.3 MB ![]() this is 596 KB but they are both the same size when posted. |

Upload the big image to photobucket or flickr. Then copy and past the BB code embed thing. Or else use the dedicated url for the photo that you can get on some sites.
They will then let you choose the size.

Read my post above. If you upload/attach an image to a post, then it'll never be wider than 800 pixels. The only way to have it show up larger is to upload it somewhere else and then link it to pelican with the img tags.

Yep. My monitors are both 1920 wide and 1080 or 1200 tall but lots of pics are still too big for them, and most folks are still using much smaller monitors. I'd consider 1024x768 the limit of what I'd stick in a webpage if the average Internet user might stumble upon it. And 640x480 or 800x600 would be even better.
