Can anyone else NOT walk around in a mall?

I don't know what it is, but 10 minutes after I set foot in a mall, I can barely walk. My feet are aching and its almost like my legs get weak. I pull up at one of the benches and tell my wife she knows where to find me.

azasadny 11-10-2012 11:33 AM

When was the last time you had a good, thorough physical? <y mother had very similar complaints and the Dr found that the arteries that branch off to the renal arteries, providing blood to her kidneys and lower extremities were almost completely blocked. He put in stents and the difference is amazing.

I'm not suggesting you have the same thing, I'm just saying that you may want to take this as a sign that something may be wrong and get it taken care of. Good luck!

widgeon13 11-10-2012 11:38 AM

Can walk in the mall, hell, I don't go to malls. Too many people!

widgeon13 11-10-2012 11:39 AM

Can't walk in a mall is what I meant to say.

Moses 11-10-2012 12:23 PM

I have a similar experience. Too much unfiltered visual input. Lights, windows, displays. It's a sensory assault. It gives me vertigo and a headache. I have to sit down. I almost never go to the mall.

Except for hitting the Metro Station in Pentagon Mall, I have not been in a Mall in 15 years.

I genuinely do not like crowds, especially those shopping in Malls.

gsxrken 11-10-2012 01:14 PM

Lol but thanks for the concern. I'm 6-1 185 and in better shape than most.
I just find them totally draining. It may be the visual overload thing noted above. I almost shop exclusively online. For that matter, I don't buy much at all other than hobby stuff. My wife keeps this entire show on the road when it comes to real stuff.

HardDrive 11-10-2012 01:23 PM

The smells are just horrible. And yes, in some malls the visual assault is awful as well.

We rarely go to malls. Oceans of cheap chinese crap, agressive sales staff, the places smell like a badgers ass, morons walking around with their underpants showing.....no thanks.

Dueller 11-10-2012 01:53 PM

Try wearing flats instead of the high heels.;)

slodave 11-10-2012 02:20 PM

I get lost in malls. No, really. I do.

StevoRocket 11-10-2012 03:09 PM

Never go at the weekend or when children are on holiday from school.
Always have a purpose, a purchase you cant get anywhere else.

Always set a target - the most attractive woman of the day will do.

Time limit your visits - 30 minutes is enough.

widgeon13 11-10-2012 03:25 PM

I drove by the mall in colony NY this afternoon, don't think there was a parking spot to be found. Looked like Black Friday.

DARISC 11-10-2012 04:12 PM

I'm saul, got mauled in a mall last fall at a bear sterns stall by a broker named paul, very tall, had a lot of gall...that's all.

Our local mall is an indoor, two-story type with walk-ways on the second floor that border large openings which allow overhead views of the shoppers below. The designer placed clear glass panels around the openings and placed large, overstuffed chairs by them--facing the glass opening. Needless to say, I rarely see anyone but men in the chairs and somehow I don't think it's because they are overly tired as they never seem to be "resting their eyes."

Yes, I admit I have pleaded fatigue to the wife to take a break at a chair while she searches the racks in the stores. Sometimes guys have to search the racks their own way.:D

It can make an otherwise unpleasant outing a bit more enjoyable.

vash 11-10-2012 08:01 PM

my wife jokes that i have a 3-store limit..it is true.

she has to plan the three stores carefully. i can buy sight unseen from the internet. i dont need the mall. i hate them. parking lots, to the crowds. the big gigantic posters at Victoria's Secret..good times. hahaha.

Well played sir.

Last mall I was in was Tysons Corner in VA in June 2011. I went straight to Gordon Biersch to drink while Mrs. Lee shopped. Saw Barabara Starr from CNN while picking up the wife in Anthropologie. Before that it was a few yrs. ago. I hate malls, I hate crowds and I will do what it takes to avoid them.

varmint 11-10-2012 11:11 PM

sensory overload. just too much advertising.

and unless you are buying gifts for a woman, i can't think of any store in a mall that sells stuff i want.

Nostril Cheese 11-10-2012 11:39 PM

My wife and I only go to the mall to shop at the Lego store.

on2wheels52 11-11-2012 02:47 AM

What's a mall?

jk, there's one two hours away. I was there sometime last century.

Can't? No. Won't? Yes.

jyl 11-11-2012 05:13 AM

Every couple of months, maybe. I have about a 45 minute tolerance. Unfortunately, fewer malls now have bookstores which are the preferred place of retreat.

LeeH 11-11-2012 07:12 AM

My in-laws were in town a couple of months ago and we visited a mall. I felt like I was on another planet. It had probably been two years since I'd set foot in one.

I don't buy much. What I do buy tends to come from Goodwill, Craigslist, or mail order. I'm so cheap that I get sticker shock in Target.

Spent some time at Crossgates Mall as a kid. Good place to sit with your girl and watch storms throught the huge glass windows in the food court.

With the exception of the back door to the tool area of Sears, I might visit a mall on Christmas Eve now and then, if I fail to plan ahead. That's about it.

THIS!!! I can dead reckon outside w/ sheer confidence...in a mall No F'in way! I can't remember which side I came in on. Pisses me off.

Laneco 11-11-2012 02:13 PM

I get lost in malls as well... This is a horrifying admission for a person who loves shoes, but it is true. I HATE malls. Especially at Christmas time with all the people and the noise. it's deafening and makes me want to go hide.

For Black Friday shopping, I prep myself up, hit the early, early stores and get home by ten or eleven. After that - I'm done. Zero shopping except for on-line. I have a BLAST on Black Friday, but after that I'm DONE. Won't step foot into a store until after New Years.

angela

widgeon13 11-11-2012 02:29 PM

I don't go near the mall the week before Black Friday and stay away until after the post holiday sales. I just hate this time of year. That's terrible but it only applies to shopping. Catalog and internet shopping for me.

ckelly78z 11-11-2012 05:06 PM

Black Friday ? Why is it so many people get so greedy the day after they gave thanks for all they have ?

My only foray into the mall this year was last month when my wife's aunt and uncle that we really like, took us to the high end Japenese Hibachi located within.

BlueSkyJaunte 11-11-2012 05:56 PM

Well, yeah, but my foot's busted. :D

I had this awesome idea, which I'll share with you guys in the hopes that someone takes it and runs with it:

A mall, built on a circular floorplan, with a sports bar in the middle. Or maybe a Hooters. With 100's of easy chairs.

Women drag their husbands in to the mall, who naturally gravitate to the center. Husbands order beer, ogle waitresses, and watch football. Women periodically check on their husbands, and ask questions like "Does this make my ass look fat? Can we afford this? Blahblahblahblahblah?" Men respond with "Mrph...yeah, sure, whatever" and get back to ogling waitresses and/or watching football.

It'll make millions!

VINMAN 11-11-2012 06:20 PM

I only enjoy the mall when we do fire prevention weekend there. We scored the spot in front Victoria's Secret back when I was Chief. Although we were reprimanded for following the customers around in the store with our remote control talking fire hydrant. :D

DanielDudley 11-12-2012 12:42 AM

I'm not sure the air is too healthy in malls. Lots of new products out gassing, and many other products have some type of preservative in them to keep animals at bay while in storage.

Are you chemically sensitive ?

Husband to wife.I want to go shopping.
Response wife to husband. Oh no, not again!

GH85Carrera 11-12-2012 06:23 AM

There is one local mall that has parking in a certain parking lot that is is a goofy location so the folks that have to park next to the door stay away. I can park in an area where the door ding chances are very low. I can get in the door of the store that sells the jeans I prefer. It is 29 steps inside that store to the jeans. I can try them on because two different pair of the same size are often different. I can be out of there in 10 minutes.

All other clothes are purchased on line. There is no other need to go to the mall.

Hawktel 11-12-2012 06:46 AM

I'll take a nice uncrowded mall any day over Walmart on Saturdays.

YES! This is how to do it. Though the Wal Mart by my house is never crowded anyway. Last time we came back from China, we couldn't sleep and, by about 6am, we were so bored, we decided to go do some shopping to restock the house, having been gone for three weeks before Xmas. It was awesome. Target was empty, the parking lot was empty.

I remember once seeing the cops directing traffic into the Wegman's parking lot by my house in VA. They said it was a 30 min. wait to get in and this was the Wed. before Thanksgiving. After that I started doing all my holiday grocery shopping after 11pm a few days before the big day. It's pretty nice then.

onewhippedpuppy 11-12-2012 08:05 AM

My wife did all of her Christmas shopping online last year. For a woman that likes to shop, that is a real commentary on how crazy the stores get between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Ronbo 11-12-2012 08:41 AM

Went to the mall with my wife a couple of months ago. While she was in the department store trying thousands of items that all look the same, I decided to do a couple of laps of the mall. Turns out there's a Lamborghini dealership inside the mall! I phoned the wife and told her to call when she was ready to leave, but not to rush.
