Selling off old car, pay registration or not
Bottom line... take about $600 to fix registration... for a car that is worth maybe $1000-$2000.
Sell 'as is' (don't fix reg)? If I donate to charity does it matter?

It all depends on what "fix registration" means.

Go down to the happiest place on earth (the DMV) and pay off $600 in back registration.

Probably worth it - unless the buyer really knows their DMV stuff, they'll be scared buying something without a reg sticker. I certainly wouldn't buy a car with back fees, even a beater.
I have to ask though - how can you get $600 behind on a beater? Like to burn money? ![]() G |

DO NOT pay back registration
You had the option of registering it as "Non-Operative" and you should have done that long ago

Too big to fail

In California, there's a way to get back fees waived for car collectors. I haven't personally done this, but I know people who have.

"sell" it to a pelican in a state w/out vehicle sales tax for a month, then "buy" it back?

A scrap yard only requires the title in your name to scrap it out, so part out everything saleable for $1500, and then scarp it for an additional $200 and be ahead of the game.

You could have put PNO reg. - no smog required. I did it on my 993 recently when the trans rebuild got in the way of smog / reg. That's water under the bridge though.
I think you may be okay selling it here on PP iwth back reg. People will trust you (unlike a CL seller). Does it have Fuchs? :O) |

If it gets converted to a track-only car (either by you or the future owner), would you still have to worry about CA registration? What if it went to an out-of-state owner? Someone's bound to want it for a LeMons racer or one of those Grassroots Motorsports $2000 challenges.

Track car is fine, they dont need registration at all -- "off road use only"
Out of state is fine, other states don't care

In the *good old days*, you could retroactively put a PNO on a car in CA. as long as it did not have any parking tickets that contradicted your story about it being off the road for the last x-number of years. Not anymore. Now it need to be done in advance.
I might be interested in it for the right price, PM sent in a minute. ![]()
