Creepy or not Creepy???

I just received an invite for a baby shower which has a picture of the sonogram on the card.

Creepy or not Creepy?

gassy 11-19-2012 11:08 AM

Not.

widebody911 11-19-2012 11:09 AM

Creepy.

Dudes getting invites for baby showers is inappropriate.

Creepy. Overall, not just the sonogram:

Don't count your chickens until they are hatched. IMHO baby showers before due date are bad luck. Maybe it is cultural - this was not done where I grew up. So there was no baby shower at my house until the kid is present and well. This also avoids the poor husband having to paint rooms and decorate 3 months before the arrival ...

Agreed! and the sonogram is a little too new age for me.

Gift hunters...send them a treasury bond.

red-beard 11-19-2012 11:20 AM

Well, it is a joint invite. I'm not going because it's about 1500 miles away. I think they are just trying to increase the gift count...

RWebb 11-19-2012 11:22 AM

1500 miles away??

write them a nice congratulations note and include an X-ray of yourself

Not creepy, nor is it very tasteful.

I'm sure someone thinks it's clever.

aigel 11-19-2012 11:32 AM

Is it a fancy 3D sonogram? Those things have become very realistic.

It is terrible IMHO, giving birth now is just another box to check. You already know the gender and how it looks like ...

I got suckered into going to my sisters baby shower. She kept saying it was a co-ed shower, blah blah blah...she is lucky she is my sister otherwise I would have walked out. Never again, for anyone at anytime, anywhere.

It's kind of the new thing. They even take maternity photos like that. Where the mom is holding the sonogram picture in front of her belly and the next picture would be her wearing the same thing, in the same pose but now with the baby. People trying to be clever, creative, and different. That's the name of the game now. Outdo the other in all this wedding, baby, family stuff. I say that with some of angst in my voice because I live in the "stay at home mom" Mecca of the southwest. Moms spend hours and tons of money on birthday parties, sweet sixteens, bridal showers/wedding, and baby showers. Sometimes I wonder if its for the kid or the parent.

Anyway, not creepy. You are probably going to see more of it. I have seen some really creepy maternity pictures though. They try to get all artsy and it just looks weird. I am surprised some of the dads are willing to do it. Talk about getting your man card taken away...

tharbert 11-19-2012 11:38 AM

Is the mother hot? You know she puts out...

Yeah, creepy.

widgeon13 11-19-2012 11:48 AM

Creepy, stupid and greedy especially since you are 1500 miles away.

To me it says, I really don't care if you can make it, just send a gift.

red-beard 11-19-2012 11:54 AM

I wasn't questioning the creepiness of being invited. It was sending us a picture of the sonogram.

I'm not grossed out by stuff like this. I just think it is a little weird to send out these kind of pictures. My sister gave us updated like this all the time on her baby. And she still does with her son, now 5.

I expect in 20 years or so, I will be getting pictures of sonograms in Super HD 3D plus, with sounds, smells and tactile response...

How about a DVD of the conception? Now that would have been cool!

+1 on just say no to guys at the baby shower... sorry ladies

tweezers74 11-19-2012 12:19 PM

Personally I don't like dudes at baby showers. No offense taken. But I guess I shouldn't say anything. I am sure there are men who don't like women at their car stuff.

Knowing him, he'd do it and wear a 70's porn stash!

I'm not sure his wife would go for it though...

Women with your sensibilities are always welcome at car stuff, at least the car stuff I go to. And, since you're currently between jobs, you're obviously invited to all the car stuff in Portland you can stand!
