Ipad 4th generation....anyone have one? Could you review it?

I've been a PC user since computers were offered in the workplace. My current Dell is nearing end of life. United is offering Ipad for mileage....around 100K and I can get a 64gb delivered.

I have a WIFI capable printer and USB plugins like a DVD player and camera/video.

I use it for school, internet and word processing......

Heavy word processing - not a fan unless you use an external keyboard (which works great via BT). Other than that, I find the v3 iPad to be highly functional and the best tablet I've used.

Todd, what about ports? USB and SD cards, etc?

You have to use adapters. There are adapters for both USB and SD - at least for the older connector. Not sure about the new one. If you really want ports, then you might want to think about another solution. What do you need the ports for?

Tablets aren't PCs. They shine for certain things, but you really need to be fairly "cloud based" if you want to do productivity stuff on them. Also, no Office for iOS (yet) so that could be an issue. There isn't a traditional file system either, so you have to learn to deal with that. Can be a pita if you aren't willing to do things the Apple-way. I do very little WP on the iPad.

Exactly. For PC users this can be difficult. For example: I wanted pdfs of price lists on my iPad - which I use exclusively on the road. I upload them to Dropbox. Using the Dropbox app + the Adobe pdf app, I can open them only with a wifi connection. Or I have to open them in iBook (another app) which finally puts them in a spot that I can find them & use them offline (a pdf library). All of these apps are free but it took me a while to figure this procedure out - so expect a learning curve.

If there an easier way Fruit People, please tell me . . .

Ian

Edit: I only have an iPad 2. Which was just replaced N/C due to a dying Home Button.

The karaoke band I play with uses pdf charts. They put them on Dropbox and I use an app called ForScore which directly connects to Dropbox and downloads the files. I then can browse them as they are stored locally.

Not sure if this is helpful

Apologies to the OP, but I wish I knew how to get that kind of mileage out of my mileage

For business we have Android tablets, multiple iPads and now an MS Surface RT. Each of them does something neat and cool. That said, right now, today, I would characterize Android tablets and iPads as entertainment vehicles and the Surface RT as a productivity tool.

YMMV

Thanks Todd but my system works well. I have a few colleagues that are wired to them but for business, they always have the three: iPhone + iLaptop + iPad. They claim that the integration of all three is magic. I bumple along with PC + Android + iPad. On the road, I can get email, surf the web in the hotel room (except for those nasty flash pages), do slide presentations, reference pdfs etc. Other than that, it's a cool toy.

It depends what you need it for, I disagree with Hal as I can go a week using my iPad as my only device with an external keyboard. I am typing this on my new iPad mini, but it s strictly used for testing (remote wipe, lock, etc) it is great for mail, browsing, etc, but the bigger iPad would be better for more productivity where screen size is important.

I held off for the first year when the iPad came out saying I didn't have a need for it, as I have 3 laptops. But now I can't imagine being without one.

There are a lot of cheaper tablets, but every time I look at the alternatives, the robustness of the iOS ecosystem wins out.

I have a 4th generation iPad and i had a 3rd as well, handed that down to the wife. There hasn't been a noticeable difference to me between the two. Only reason I got the 4th really is because I also have an iPhone 5 and wanted to be all the same cables (BASTARDS!!!). I had planned to buy another 3 before the 4 came out. Plus - I HAD TO HAVE the new processor!!! (sometimes you just can't fight the tech urges).

As far as usability? I have never used mine with an external keyboard. Maybe that would be different...

With that being said - I find the iPad a great device for consuming content of all kinds (except flash of course which I don't blame them for not supporting since it is a huge performance hog) and creating text content. Anything more on the creating content side and I revert to my laptop.

Other than that - I love the iPad. I use the kindle app on it, Netflix, etc. Long battery life, great screen. Lots of stuff in the ecosystem for it.

Yep.

I just ordered a refurbished 64GB iPad 3 from Apple this week, should arrive tomorrow. It was $549 including free shipping. Something to consider.
