Nope, Shimano style. I guess I'll find out when I get the wheels. They are the same as what's on my LeMond. Need to order a Shimano tool....
Joe, if you need some wheels I'll be selling spare set. |
it should work even without shims. Just make sure the chain doesn't jump out of the smallest cog into the dropouts.
|
Mike,
Pls stay in touch and let me see what actually arrives with the bike. Hoping that it arrives before years end so I can finally see what condition its in and if it has one or two sets of wheels with it. Are these clinchers or tubular and what type of hubs? Thx, Joe |

Speed Plays are the schizzle....

Reg,
What kind of riding does she do? Sometimes, people get too caught up on equip. and the must haves. For the Sunday ride around the park just to enjoy the day, then I would say general platform pedals with a mtb cleat on one side. she can use her regular tennis shoe or a cleated shoe. If she's wants to get a little serious about the bike, then get her into some Shimano mtb pedals and their cleats. They are simple, cheap and you can walk on them (cleat is recess inside the lugs on the shoe). Make sure they are set at the lowest or very loose setting so with little effort she's out. I assume she isn't a very experience cyclist? I am always against getting a beginning cyclist all geared up with all the shoe and pedals. Once they fall, it takes all the fun out of it and they don't want to get back on again. Speed play is good too, but i think its a bit difficult to walk with them. |

I ran Shimano wheels on Campy drivetrains for years (8-9-10 spd), but not sure if I still have the spacers around-if I do, they're you know where :) But I'll look. Did find an 8 spd index cog in my parts pin that will allow you to convert early 9spd brifters back to 8 if needed. |

Hmm. Just went and looked at a frame.
The good: it is an authentic Ilkeston-built Raleigh SBDU 753. Frame less fork weighs 1638 grams, check. Seat tube is 28 mm o.d. (a hair under, but that could be my crappy plastic micrometer), check. 753 decal is original, check. No damage. Serial number puts it about 1980. The bad: Paint is poor, but no rust. It is smaller than advertised. C-t-c is 20.5" or 52 cm. Frame is marked "55" but that must be c-t-t. The top tube is 21.5" c-t-c or 54.6 cm. I have to measure the smallest bike that I ride well, and see how this frame compares. I think 50/50 if I can even proceed to price haggling. |
Not a huge fan of cycle computers except for maybe heart and cadence rates....but this is super cheap for someone that DOES like them.
Greg, on my wheel upgrade I bought some on FleaBay, new in box....great price. The new Bontrager take offs on CL fell thru, first the guy refused to ship and then I offered to have someone pick them up....he started dithering...wanker. Anyways.....The winter must be killing bike shops in the upper mid west. Plan on having them supply the 8 speed cassette with gearing of my choice and relying on them to not screw it up...%^) |
