Check this scam out.
This was just in my spam folder. I didn't edit it at all. It's really that bad.
From the office of Agent Mark F. Giuliano Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Atlanta Division Federal Bureau of Investigation Intelligence field unit 2635 Century Parkway N.E, Suite 400 Atlanta, GA 30345 USA Urgent Attention: I am Special Agent Mark F. Giuliano from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (Atlanta Division) Intelligence Unit. We have just intercepted and confiscated two (2) trunk boxes at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta international airport, and are on the verge of moving it to our bureau head quarters. We have scanned the said boxes, and have found it to contain a total sum of USD$4.5M and also backup document which bears your name as the receiver of the money contained in the boxes. Investigations carried out on the diplomat who accompanied the boxes into the United States has it that he was to deliver this fund to your residence as your contract/inheritance payment which was due you from the office of finance Minster of the federal government of Nigeria. We cross-checked all legal documentation in the boxes, and were about to release the consignment to the diplomat, when we found out that the boxes is lacking one very important documentation which as a result, the boxes have been confiscated until the required document is provided. According to section 229 subsections 31 of the 1991 constitution on release of unclaimed consignment payment, your consignment lacks funds ownership certificate and for that reason you must contact me for direction on how to procure this certificate, so that your consignment can be legally cleared and okay for delivery to you. You are required to contact this bureau within 72 hours or we would take it that you do not want your consignment, and would move it to the treasury Also, you must not contact any other bank for any payment, because your payment is here in care of our storage vault team and will be released to you once you follow my directives You have been warned. Yours in service, Mark F. Giuliano Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Atlanta Division |
Oh, and this was that official FBI return email address. Looks just like the one from the real FBI agent I know. Uh huh.
FBIatlantAgov203@plum.ocn.ne.jp |
I dunno, it sounds pretty serious.......I mean 'You have been warned'
Yep that looks like a real FBI email address, from the Bigfoot investigation unit.
Dear Sir or Mam........... who do you know in Nigeria ?
You can tell its a scam, if it was legit the email would have been from the IRS and they would want their cut first before handing only one of two boxes!!:D
At least the money is in the US now. Half the trouble is usually getting it out of Nigeria.
Pretty convenient that they had your email address, huh? Because I'm sure the FBI routinely transfers millions of foreign dollars to individuals with an email.:p
You have been warned.
Hahaha, that's awesome! I need to tell my spam filter to let these thing through. They're entertaining. |
Email them back and say "Hey its Christmas, I do not need it, so go ahead and keep the money!"
oh my god....a scam that doesn't have any typos? they're getting good....
Are you kidding me? That email has more typos in it than my wife's high school English essays.
i love how they dont specifically direct the letter to you by name. for security reasons, i'm sure.
the FBI boys sure are smart!! |
I keep getting e mails from FedEx that my UPS package is being held up at the post office.

Headquarters is ONE WORD! Pretty obvious it ain't for real.
the agent..sounds like a real agent. funny
There are more mistakes in that letter than I can count. But the SAIC of the Atlanta field office really is that name. So I sent the ATL field office a note about this last night to see if they care to follow up. I know a Pelican from VA who is an FBI agent, but he hasn't posted in a while and recently took down his FB page, so I couldn't ping him through there.

They are getting better with the grammar, typos, etc.
But it's still tough to really nail it. Just as an example, the FBI is never going to write "okay for delivery to you," or conclude a letter with "You have been warned." |
Based on my vast experience in these matters, it is indeed a scam.
