Are two more cylinders really worth $50K? I know, the 911T is closer to concours, but then a '66 is usually more valuable than a '69. When will 912s start to go crazy?

you mean $21,900 for the slower, 4 cylinder, 911 wannabe isnt already "going crazy"?

I've always liked the 912's but when their price is getting higher than nice condition 911SC's, its hard to justify.

That '69 911T is just evidence of a world gone crazy. That is a $10k car in a sane world, it's not a desirable year/model, at all, and not even a nice example. I could rip it apart from bumper to bumper just based on those photos. It's a car I would not want to own, regardless of price.

Other than to flip to some idiot, of course.

Not as crazy as a 911. And who cares about slower? When I used to drive my 911E, it was usually in traffic or in places where I couldn't take advantage of its 250hp on a 2100-lb body. It was insanely fast but it almost never mattered.

Speaking of SC's, I drove a friend's recently. I had only ever driven my E before, so it's not a fair comparison, but the SC was a dog. It was slow and handled like a ton of bricks. Based on that, I'd probably prefer a slow, nice handling 912.

That is why I would use it for a DD... I even have this wacky idea... a hypermilling commuter 911... take a light aerodynamic body (early 911) and slap a VW mouse motor in there... wonder how many MPG's you would get?

Only problem with that idea is early 911'a are $$$ even sans engines

have been thinking long and hard about swapping the 4 banger for a 2.4 or 2.7 in one of my 66 912's, reading this thread will make me think more about keeping it and tweeking more out of the 4 baanger-

Definitely keep the 4. Something like 200 fewer pounds in back, and not as far back, at that. You can easily get a 4 up to 140 HP or so. That's my plan.

Take your 4 and put it on a shelf. Dump in a stout Raby TIV and rip it up on every drive without mercy. Easier swap, same or more HP as a small 911 engine, both routes done well are expensive, but the TIV will keep your basic setup/handling, etc.

When you're done, put the original engine back in for resale.

I had a '68 912 with a five speed for a few years when I was stationed in San Diego. What a hoot.

I drove it to Maryland when I was transferred here, 1988. I had 30 days of "basket leave" and I spent 25 of them doing a sinusoidal wave across America.
